To all 15400 owners

I am considering selling my SS Daytona plus cash for the blue dial 15400 royal oak. Question is how dose it hold up as far as daily use. And is the service on it pretty pricy? I have never had AP before so I want to hear your experience. Thanx.

Loved the watch but it's a little delicate for my lifestyle and traded it for a FC diver.

Id say do it! Its very rare nowadays and you cant get it with a standard discount as per my AD. Its a scratch magnet but who cares, enjoy your watch. You can change the bezel or have it polished. I use it everyday and i feel very happy everytime i check the time :) if that makes sense.

Goodluck!

Much better watch than Daytona, expensive to buy, wear and service.

But so are the better things in life, as much a luxury brand as Rolex is, AP is true haute horlogerie.

But better yet, sell one of your Omegas and keep the Daytona for the active duties

I wear mine 4-5 days a week and it's a great watch. Every watch scratches. Just wear it and enjoy it.

Not even a question--get it. Adios Daytona!

Regarding servicing, if it's a newer 15400, then it probably has plenty of warranty, and you can send it to AP (takes about 3-4 weeks) before end of 2 year warranty, they'll check it for free and give you an additional year free! So I wouldn't sweat the servicing department question.

Rolex makes about 1 million watches per year, AP around 40,000 give or take...any questions

Have had both, still have my blue 15400 and love it. Neither are great for a daily though. IMO, something like a Sub daily and 15400 for weekends would work better.

No question about it. Different league. A little more delicate, less robust but a work of art. Also, AP has the best warranty and service in the industry (or right up there anyway). Maintenance can get pricy especially if you have the piece refinished.

Methinks it is worth it ... Hell ... Look at posts 5 and 6! (unless you will obsess about every scratch and nick and be miserable about it, in which case it might not be the best idea).

The way it reflects light and color under the sun is something else. I have never seen anything like it.

It holds up well as a daily beater but not as robust as a Rolex and is a scratch magnet. Service is more expensive than Rolex but if you are getting from US AP boutique, I think you can get 5 years warranty inclusive of 1st service.

At some point I had both, 15400 it is a scratch magnet and if you are worried about that its going to be hard cause every little mark is shown not only on the bracelet but also on the bezel.
I personally decided to let it go and still have the Daytona andlove it.

It is a nice piece but I can only imagine how it will lok after a year of every day use.

Good Luck

I flipped my Daytona for a 15300 and still think it was a good decision two years later. However, I truly think the Daytona is a fantastic watch and wish it didn't have to go. I may add one later because of this. If you can, keep it and save for the AP. Good luck!

Mine doesn't really see daily wear. Maybe a couple times a month.
Still looks new though.
The finish is superb but scratches will eventually happen.

It is a work of art. Scratches will occur and the way I look at it, I can have the bezel replaced anytime.

Service in Clearwater is top notch.

I have a few on mine but it doesn't phase me.

Wear and enjoy!

So as someone who finds that Rolex watches scratch and show wear far too easily for my liking, should I not even consider a 15400?

It is really hard to say, have you seen a 15400, and I assume we're talking steel? It has so many facets and angles, the fit and finish is to die for, but at the same time it scratches. It just is a different watch than a Daytona.

It is more stainless steel art. The Daytona is an icon for different reasons.

At the end of the day, I buy watches to wear them. So I wear it. I bought mine used, and it had a few scratches. It doesn't detract from the appearance but when I look closely I find them. The sun still jumps off the band. It just glimmers.

and don't look back. Daytona is a joke compared to a 15400, especially the blue dial.

One other thing, I got the black dial. If I had to choose again I'd get a different dial. The white and blue seem to sparkle more. I just wanted a black stick dial and didn't think how it worked with the 15400st. The hands and sticks sparkle more than the dial. I didn't think about too much before I bought it but would if I did it again.

I wear my 15300 every day now and ended up selling all my Rolex. I kept a Patek Aquanaut that I wear occasionally but couldn't be happier with my now small collection. The 15400 was a little big for my taste but fit, finish, and wear is better than anything I've owned.
