Between those two particular models, I prefer the Rolex. I do not like the case design or crown guards of that GS.
This GS is a lot nicer, imo, as well as being a hi-beat. |

Rolex here hands down.
I used to own the non GMT SBGR055... The crown was harder to manually wind than the 16570 which is a breeze IMHO. The crown threads harder to catch and the manual winding continues as you're screwing down which gave the feeling of cross threading even though you likely weren't. The seconds hand of mine was ever so slightly bent which surprised me given GS's quality and my half link folded over like corroded tin can when trying to adjust the size... |

Both are good looking. I like the expii better though. Don't care for the gs crown guards, nor the hr markers. But I do like the bezel numbers and the blue gmt hand on the gs better then the expii... Its close, but I'm keeping the expii

Both are very nice.
Better is a completely subjective word.

Myself like both if I had to choose slightly leaning toward the GS, like the dial, non cyclops, and bezel looks better but not sure of the crown guards but they most certainly look different.

It's very interesting to me that two VERY similar watches (dare I say the GS is almost an homage to the EXII?) can be so different in character. They look so similar, but the EXII seems more fitting for a guy carrying climbing gear while the GS seems ideal for a guy carrying hand luggage onto his company plane. |

But just not just any old Seiko its a Seiko Grand, wonder what would happen if the same watch had say Patek on the dial.

Than it would be a home run for the Patek and anybody who would vote Rolex would be deemed a fanatic LOL

My biased opinion is the Exp2. I don't like the shiny GS bezel, and as others have pointed out the CG looks off. Besides, as far as GMT functions are concerned Rolex was first, and still does it best IMO.

I have and always will respect the Grand Seiko line.
In this case, Rolex really did have the nicer design. I for one dislike the case shape as well as the CG/Crown area on the Grand Seiko |

Agree. It also sits lower and the bracelet is the 5 piece as opposed to what I feel is the inferior 3 piece on the SBGM025 GMT

Although I like the GS, if I'm going to shell out $5K I'd just as soon go the distance and get the Exp II. Nothing against Seiko at all, I really like most of their watches but given the choice I'd rather have a Rolex on my wrist.

I'm by no means a rolex fan boy. I'm all about the watch. Not the brand.
And I much prefer the exp 2.

Personally, I slightly prefer the looks of the GS, however had is been the 42mm Explorer in the contest that would definitely be the winner for me. (PS, really nice to see balanced posts so far)

Both nice, I prefer the white Exp II over the GS. Wider bezel, sportier hands, style of bracelet links, dot markers, etc.

I can't look past the brand for some strange reason. Grand or not, Seiko does nothing for me.

I love and collect vintage Seiko but would never spend the money they ask for a Grand Seiko. Not today not in a million years.
