Forget about the price and ask yourself which watch you truly want. If it's the OMEGA, then you'll save yourself a few grand.

I own an Omega Seamaster Crono (Gold-Titanium) since 2001.
Overall, a good and impressive watch. It had a few minor problems over the years though. Recently, I got myself a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust. Even though they are completely different types of watch, I can tell you that the Rolex is better. Overall, I wouldn't compare - ever again - Rlx vs Omg. They are just not the same class of watches. Omegas are really great - especially their high-end ones - but Rolex is just so much better. Buy the Sub and never look back again to other watches |

Omega is, with may other watch makers, an A class watch; but Rolex is the only A+.
It is the detail that makes the difference. |

You sould see the new Omega's with applied markers, they look stunning. I have owned both the ND sub and a Omega seamaster 2254.50, they are both great, high quality watches, just go with your heart.

You have to also consider whether you will miss the date feature. I know I did. I flipped it for the SeaDweller instead (no cyclops and clean dial).

I'll agree with you to an extent (sport watches and DURABLE dress watches), but for true dress watches, there ARE better. GENEVA SEAL

Ok, you get the Omega and don't like it so you flip it for a Submariner. You're probably going to sell the Omega at a big loss. You would have to save some more to get your Submariner.
If you get the Submariner but for some reason not like the ND, you'll probably sell it at a good price. You still have to save for a Sub date or SD but not as much than a flipped Omega. Or if you still like Omega but not the watch you got. You can sell your Submariner and get several other Omegas as another WIS forumite just did. Get The Submariner!! |

I have asked myself this many times, and I must say the only watch that will satisfy me is a Rolex, so I will wait.
Sub nd is a very nice watch and I would be happy to wear it. |

I would certainly recommend the 14060m. It is the classic Rolex sports model, bar none.
Do not discount the idea of an Omega. It would have to be this one, though. Speedy 50th. |

If you have the one watch buy the Rolex if you can live without the date. It's a beautiful watch. Later you can buy an Omega. But they are both excellent brands (which is why I have one of both). Omega's service can be very slow.

Get the Sub first...
Then save a few bucks and get the Omega...

That is a beautiful SMP what kind of problems did you have with it over the years? How does the gold hold up scratch and scuff wise?

You buy NEW Omega and you sell it: You lose money. About 500 bucks, assuming you get a discount. You buy NEW Sub no date and you sell it: You lose money. Way over a thousand. You buy USED Omega, you wear it for two years and flip: You lose no money. You buy USED Sub no date, wear for two years and flip: You lose no money. If you buy new... you lose. Always. (with very few exceptions like Daytona SS or Milgaus)

Omega or Rolex was a difficult decision for me too. I went back and forth, but finally decided on...

Thank you, it is really beautiful. The gold will not scratch - I mean that, even if it does, you will not notice it due to the nature of the metal: it holds the same tone of color within the line scratch and around. Forget about scratches in the gold parts. The titanium part will scratch; because it is a dark-toned metal (darker than steel), the sratches will be a tone whiter. However, I know that you can have the titanium polished (I haven't though - doesn't really spoil things). The watch looks almost as new as when I bought it 7 years ago - as you can see in the pic - and I have heavily used it. Problems? very small things: 1) The watch clasp broke down (after 6yrs) and I had to replace it - 164 euros. 2) Once it fell down and the chronograph function got stuck. I took it to the watch lab - opened the case, no repair, just moved it a bit and it worked again. But I wouldnt expect this from a Rolex. 3) Again the chronograph: it stucks sometimes (5-6 times over the 7 years) but gets back to functioning with a little play with the buttons. Understanable I guess but still annoying. Cheers, Minas |

Both are nice watches.
Omega has 1. Co-Axial movement (less maintenance) 2. Better lume 3. Same cost for maintenance as Rolex 4. Less expensive 5. Robust movement 6. Durability Rolex has 1. Iconic design 2. Higher prestige factor (in U.S. at least) 3. Low cost maintenance (compared to other luxury brands) 4. Robust movement 5. Durability 6. 904L grade SS resists scratches well and maintains it's look Do you have an emotional attachment to one brand over the other? If so, I would go with that brand. |

There are no two ways about it, an Omega is a good watch, but it really is a bit of a stretch to compare an Omega to a Rolex. I haven't heard to many watch collectors say "I wish I would have bought the Omega instead of the Rolex". Buy the Rolex and there is no looking back.
