AARRRRGGG! Frustrated with Omega service!

I am about ready to fly to NY and get my Omega back from the service center.

I sent my SMP in because it kept starting and stopping. It's under warranty so I brought it into my AD and they mailed it in the first week of Dec. 2007.

They called me two weeks later to tell me the watch was magnetized. How that happened I can't figure out.

They informed me they are covering this under warranty and giving it a complete service while it is there, free. Great I thought as it's about $500 to have an SMP chrono serviced. I was told they are closed the week between XMas and New Years but I should expect my watch back by the second week of Jan.2008. No prblem, "Great" I tell them.

I didn't hear from them and I called Jan. 22nd. I was told the watch was in "Quality control" and I should be getting it back in 7-10 days. OK, fine.

Another two weeks go by..Nada. I wait and call them back Feb. 15. I am getting pissed by now. I get a call back saying they are really sorry but part of my free service I never asked for is to replace the crown and it is on "back order". They are expecting a shipment in a few days and I should get my watch back by the end of the month. "Are you sure?" "Yep". Heavy sigh...

Now..I call a few days ago and asked "Where the F%$k is my watch!" Sorry, but the crown is still on back order. Omega only sends in parts to the service center ONCE A MONTH and now they are telling me they hope to have it by the end of this month! WHAT? Omega sends parts on the 22nd of each month. If it doesn't arrive, you have to wait till the next month. I AM PISSED!

I never asked for my SMP to be serviced. It is only a little over two years old. It didn't need servicing and now I haven't had my watch for 3 months!

My AD has has contacted a supervisor or manager and they are looking at finding me a crown so I can get my watch back. I am supposed to hear today what they are going to do. I personally told them "I didn't care if you have to go to an AD and take one off a new watch, I want my watch fixed."

This is ridiculous!

I better hear good news today or I am going to escalate this to whomever I need to.

Try emailing this woman.

natalie.soto@swatchgroup.com

My experience was identical to yours, only it happened three times in one year. Next time, I'm going local, even if it's at my own expense.

I haven't heard very many good things about the Omega service out of their main Secaucus, NJ Center...

I've heard complaints about the NJ service center and Omega are notoriously slow at servicing. I guess they were trying to give you a free service. Their intentions were noble, but they could have consulted you. One good thing is your old crown could have failed to be water tight. It's ridiculous that they ship parts once a month. Email their customer service department in Bienne (email address is on their website). They have always replied to my mails, so you will likely get a reply. The more people complain the faster their slow service will get fixed - and they might send you a few freebies.

Swiss Service Center in IL did a good job and turned it around in about 6 weeks. I hear that sending them "home" (to Switzerland), can take over 6 months!

Hi David,

In another post (Friday Wrist shot), you mentioned you got the call for your 2254?

It is always rough to hear when situations like this go the wrong way. It sounds like a whole chain of good intentions have gone wrong so that you have to wait much too long to get your watch back. I hope it resolves for you soon. Best of luck.

I feel your pain brother, I sent my 007 in for a complete service to Omega's SC in New Jersey on 1/11/08 and I got a follow up call last week saying I should get my watch back some time in May!!!!!! 5 months!!!!

What is funny is that Omega is doing this complete service for FREE since my Omega PO took 5 months to get back after a winding issue. So they agreed to service my 7 year old SMP at no cost and assured me that the service on the SMP would be RUSHED and would not take as long!!!

I really like the design of an Omega watch, but hate there sloooow service center!!! They can basicly kiss my , in the future I will not use Omega's SC. I will use a local AD.

That's one reason I'm hesitant buying another Omega. I wonder why it takes forever to get an Omega serviced. Does anyone know what the heck's going on at Omega's American and European service centers?

I've heard some of them are excellent. I hear good words about one they have in England, but in the U.S. they seem to have a problem with service. Omega says they don't have enough watchmakers, so how do Rolex manage to do it?

Rolex just pledged $1 million to a watchmaking school here in the US. Perhaps that helps to prepare more of them. Swatch Group, whose revenue is in the billions per annum, has no excuse for a poor service center.

I recently sold a GMT Seamaster. Very nice watch. Built great. Problem is that I sent it in service: timing, repressure and clean up. It took four months to get it back. I found John Holbrook's thread on sending the watch directly to Omega in Switzerland. I suspect I would have gotten it back faster. My friend at an authorized Omega dealer must tell potential Omega customers that it can take 3-4 months to get the watch serviced by Omega's RCS. Apparently not enough watchmakers on their staff.

Swatch Group just reported they netted $1 Billion last year.

Let's hope they send some of that to New Jersey.

My Ad called me on Monday to say the part they were waiting on was in. Now it was going to go off to be regulated and then shipped. I was told I would have it back by the end of the month. I BETTER!!!

That's funny, because I bought a Datejust after growing tired of my SMP service delays.

Good news, DoxaDavid! Can't wait to see some photos!

There are several Service Centers listed on Omega's website under Customer Service > Customer Service Network. I called the service center listed below and they tell me they perform work with a faster pace than the NJ Center.

Nesbit's Service

I've used Nesbit's twice. They were not consistent with updates, but Jan at Nesbit's was both courteous and professional. One time, they were delayed because...they were waiting for a back-ordered crown to come in from NJ.

I'd definitely use Nesbit's again, though for out-of-warranty work I might opt first for RGM, whose service was outstanding. They'll work on anything and everything, and they make pretty fine watches, too.
