Thoughts on Datejust combos?
Hi all,
I've got a bunch of Datejust thoughts swirling around my head, so what better way to work it through then to solicit input from the good folks on TRF! First, a little context. With our ten-year anniversary coming up later this year, I've been thinking about getting his & hers DJs. (For our wedding, we actually went Cartier --- yes, I know. Probably would have went Rolex instead if I could go back in time.) I already know my wife's preference --- 26mm, batons, silver dial, fluted bezel, and jubilee bracelet. I would go 36mm and with baton markers. I think it would be nice to get matching ones, but I really dig the roulette date wheel and the silver dial does not come with the red-black date. If the roulette date wheel wins out, I think I would go black or blue dial instead, depending on the bezel and bracelet combo. However, I also can't decide whether to go with fluted/jubilee or smooth/oyster. To me, the fluted/jubilee is the classic DJ combo and the jubilee does seem more comfortable. But it also seems a bit flashier and dressier (with its polished links). The smooth/oyster seems a bit sportier and more under the radar. As I find more pics online, I find myself starting to think a "mixed" combo might be nice. I previously hadn't considered these options, i.e., smooth/jubilee or fluted/oyster. If the choices were on a spectrum, maybe it's a nice balance of elements? This is around the time when my head starts spinning with the choices. I'm mostly looking for a daily wearer for work --- business casual and suits. For reference, I have a Sub ND but I'm thinking of selling/trading it to help fund the DJ x 2. As versatile (and beautiful) as the 14060M is, I found it to be a little too sporty for my work and I miss the date feature. Plus, I was treating it a little too carefully for a full-time, weekend tool watch. So to some extent, the DJ will be filling a Sub-shaped void. (I may eventually come back to something like a Sub Date or SubC Date, as I've come to peace with having a cyclops on a Sub and the new clasp is awesome.) The ADs I stopped by don't have all the exact combos on display. And after a while, it gets a little hectic and difficult to discern when trying on multiple watches because they all look great. Any thoughts, experiences, combo ideas, pictures would be appreciated! Anyone wish they went with a different combo? |

Great idea ! I got my wife a 26 mm DJ fluted with black MOP on oyster and she still loves it after all these years. I think she would look great with a 31 too but she still is firmly in the 26 mm camp. If your wife is too she'll love it !
Here it is Frankly there is no wrong in any DJ combo. Fluted and oyster go well together as domed with jubilee. Some think one only goes with the other but I think any combo is great. I can't help you with what you should do but can show you what I did and will do. This I have now : And these I most likely will get in the near future:

Thanks for those ideas! Those Arabic numeral dials are real nice. That's introducing yet another variable!

I really like the fluted bezel, and it goes well with either the jubilee or the oyster bracelet. I would buy the first DJ that appeals to you on the 'for sale' section. You can always shop for a bracelet or a different dial for variety's sake.

Hi
I had the oyster bracelet on a datejust and it got too scratched up for me. So I switched to the jubilee bracelet I just had the watch pictured here delivered on Friday (36mm TT datejust) from an outstanding trusted seller on this forum. it is my first TT watch i have owned in many years and I love the silver index dial it's gorgeous in person and I could not be happier with my new acquisition |

I'm a real fan of the fluted bezel/Jubilee bracelet combo for two reasons: (1) looks richer, more classic IMO and (2) does not show scratches nearly as easily, if at all. Here are pics of mine and my wife's. Despite my suggestion however, she went with the Oyster bracelet. She's pretty careful but does complain at time about scratches on the PCLs.

Always happy to provide a vote for the fluted DJ in white Roman numerals.

It would be nice to match the combination chosen for your wife. You cannot go wrong with the jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel combination. That model is classic iconic Rolex in my opinion. Dressy enough for a suit, but still can wear it with jeans.
My wife and I have matching DJ 1's. SS with jubilee bracelets, fluted bezels and rodhium roman dials. 26mm and 36mm respectively. In the end, go with what makes you both happy. |

I have a fluted, oyster with sticks and a black dial. I can't seem to take it off. My sub and GMT are getting dusty.

That's my personal favorite combo. That and white sticks.

First congrats on your 10 year anniversary.
I would keep the Sub. for sure. Many uses for it. Both my DJs have fluted bezels and Jubilee bracelets. One is a TT blue dial and the other is ss tuxedo with the new Jubilee. The advantages of the ones I have are that they don't show dings and scratches and the Jubilee is very comfortable. |

<<<<<<<<This one. I am with DVR on the silver decorated dial, oyster, smooth. I have never seen this dial anywhere else on anyone's wrist. That or a tuxedo dial. But I do love the roulette date wheel.

Here's an interactive one:
Rolex Dial Configurator. (mouse over the dials to see them on the watch).

I agree 100% I've always loved the Jubilee bracelets and my DJ the only visible scratches are on the clasp

Wow, thanks everyone! This is great. Looking through all the pics and suggestions multiple times, I'm liking the fluted/oyster combo and the number dials more than I thought I would.
Has anyone bought another bracelet to switch up the look? |
