Meteorite dial on wg daytona
Why isn't the meteorite dial more prevalent? It's on the wg daytona, strap or bracelet, and to me is stunning- best dial rolex makes. Curious if people dislike the look or if the 2-3k premium is too much of an impediment.

I think itīs quite a special dial that is not for everyone, same as the WG Daytona sodalite dial.
When purchasing a new WG watch I donīt think the premium puts potential buyers off, just the looks. |

Well first you can identify a meteorite by its Widmanstatten pattern,Rolex uses for there dials meteorite made from the Gibeon meteorite. Now the Gibeon was a meteorite that fell to the earth in prehistoric times in Namibia. And it was named after the nearest town Gibeon in Namibia now a 232 kg lump was first discovered in 1857 but many lumps between 100 and 500 kg were recovered in the years shortly after 1900 to present time. This meteorite has a very high nickel content, so it's very stable and basically won't rust. And the main cost is not so much the material around $5-$6 a gram for top quality slices. Now the reason meteorite dials are not say on watches like the SS subs its the labour process costs to produce a and polish a almost perfect dial that take quite a bit of time for every single unique dial produced.

It is certainly a special dial and would love to see it on SS Daytona but alas, not to be.

I like the idea of it more than the actual look of it, and the Romans don't help here I think. I prefer panda and slate to it.

![]() I love the meteorite dial, I think Rolex does it way better than anyone else. I'm just not sure I like it on the Daytona with Roman Numerals. Put that Dial on a DD and you have a different story. |

Not to mention the premium. The Meteorite adds abut $5000 to your WG Daytona.

I love the meteorite dial. Watches with them seem to be hard to find. They look good with WG, Plat, or SS (if they ever made a SS with one).

I just saw one in person at Wixon Jewellers in MN a couple of days ago. I have to say, photos don't do that model justice. It was one of the most attractive watches I have seen, IMHO. Really pops in person.

I saw the same one yesterday when I was in there to get my WG Sub sized. That meteorite is VERY handsome in person, especially on the bracelet.
