Need Help With Identification
hey all.
I know that the forum members are the smartest in the world so I was hoping someone might know what this sink is exactly and where it might have come from as well as its purspose. I foung it at a flea market and it is very heavy and made of high quality wood.the top comes off of the pedistal and there is a drain in the top. it looks art deco to me,but if it where a sink then why would the top come off? any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers ![]() |

Not sure how old it is but try contacting antiques' road show listed at the bottom of this link.

I do not think it is a sink. It looks to be a Holy Water Font. Water that has been blessed is poured into it, and people dip their hands in it to cross themselves. It is a Catholic thing, I think. The only thing that makes me think I might be wrong is it's lack of religious symbolism. Just my two cents, but some of those were in fact made of wood.

I'm almost sure it's for "holy water." Used to baptize babies and whatnot. That was my guess before reading any of the posts.
