44mm SS Novelty 26400SO thoughts.
I traded my only AP (26320) 6 months back and focused on collecting Rolex however I'm on the verge of coming back and trading my DSSD for SS/ceramic Novelty. Not a fan of the rubber strap but will order a GP in a few weeks and despite it's larger size,( incidentally I intended to go down a notch despite flirting with the idea of YMII) I'm actually looking forward to it. I have a few week wait until it's here but looking for wrist shots and assurances that this is a good move for me.
Any owners out there willing to give their thoughts? |

44mm SS is a great watch. I personally LOVE the rubber strap--especially for summer. But yes, you made a great move and look forward to wrist shots!

I have been admiring the 44MM Steel Novelty for months and finally broke down and bought one. I've never spent that much on a single watch (and at pre-owned price levels) but I finally broke down. I received it on Tuesday this week and am absolutely in love with it, and I am saying that the feeling is beyond the honeymoon phase of receiving any new incoming.
I like the Steel Novelty so much that I am thinking about getting rid of my entire collection (including Rolex, IWC, and Panerai) and just stick with AP or even just the Novelty itself, since I don't think I will want to wear the other watches in my collection. I might keep the AP Diver for when the Novelty needs to be serviced and I need another AP to wear. |

Interesting I am thinking about unloading couple of my Rolex to get back to AP as well. I am actually thinking about the SS Diver. When I had my 44 SS Novelty, it was a large piece of metal on my wrist and it seems to keep bumping into things, never dented it but I had to be very careful. Good luck, its a great watch.

![]() Key with the heavier 44mm models (SS, RG, Plat) is to have a strap that maintains the top heavy feel. Short strap is ideal for 6.5 inch wrist. LOVE the 44mm and SS is a great one. ![]() |

So why do I like the 44MM Novelty so much? I already like the ROO above many other iconic designs but I think the 44MM takes it to the next level. Key but substantial improvements include ceramic bezel, pushers, and crown (for virtually no wear and tear), flat pusher design (more modern and integrated looking), and the slightly larger diameter (but not thicker) sits on the wrist more balanced. The details of the dial are really nice to look at and the watch just exudes high quality finish.
All of the above qualities plus chronograph and date features, as well as 100M WR makes this the one watch to own if you only wanted one. Best combination of sports elegance, pedigree, styling, features, and comfort. |

And while I really like the silver dial with the black contrasting subdials and red tipped hands (its actually a pearl whitish silver), and also the "affordability" of the SS version, I think the RG version is really gorgeous! If I was comfortable spending that much money on a single watch, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the RG version. I think the Ceramic version is interesting as well but not sure if I will like the all black look in the long run. I just don't care for the Forged Carbon version. One day the marbled finish looks cool and unique, then the next day it looks like cheap plastic.

All of the AP 44's are great.
My order of preference is Platinum, RG, Ceramic and SS. |

Thanks for the feedback guys, do keep the pics coming. I am a bigger guy and am fairly certain I can pull this size off. I have flirted with the idea on and off for the last while and even looked at the RG version at one stage before going for something completely different in the RG SkyDweller. I actually prefer the SS model but in any case that's my budget now anyway so be it. I have noted that the RG doesn't seem to depreciate as fast - I wonder why that is.
The Tang Buckle is going to be a new thing for me. The GP strap is essential as I am not keen on rubber. I'd like to order an XL strap beforehand but am not so sure if the standard will be sufficient. I have a 7 3/4" wrist and prefer semi loose. Any experiences you can share |

Regarding strap, yes you might want to get XL, but standard may fit on last (Truly a personal preference). Any Boutique can order the strap for you or you can order direct from Clearwater if you're in the US. I think they are about $287. Quote:

I'm in the same boat. I've owned the 15400 silver dial and now the Diver (currently on bracelet). The diver is already large so I wanted to try in the SS 44 before pulling the trigger, and it actually wears a bit more comfortable as mentioned above due to the fact that the weight is spread better across the wrist. I have a flat approx 7" wrist and I was on the smallest hole on the regular strap so I'll be getting a short strap as well. I wish I could go RG but the price difference in the secondary market is substantial ($24k vs $40k).

One of the nicest out there in my opinion. Weight is not an issue and it wears super comfortable as long as you have the right fit, so ordering the right strap is key.
The dial is probably my all around favorite. It is a big boy though. ![]()

[QUOTE=texex91;5012915]RG is a very hard watch to find and people love it. The more desired, the less the depreciation many times.

LNIB H is around 40k where the stainless can be picked up LNIB H for around 22k, I guess I assumed precious metal would depreciate faster but you may have a point I am getting a Standard rubber with it but going for the GP as I like the suede feel of the alacantra and think XL may make better sense. Any idea how much they shoot for US side? |

I am going to try to go a few days without my Novelty. Today I am going to wear the AP Diver, and tomorrow, another brand. If I keep yearning for the Novelty then I will know that I need to adjust my collection.
I have a belief that watches that don't get worn regularly in the rotation will not be kept. |

So the AP Diver has not lost its luster with me. Really enjoying looking at the exaggerated texture of the Mega Tapeserrie dial that my 44MM Steel dial doesn't have. And the simpler (black) dial makes a nice contrast to the silver dial of the 44MM also.
I want to note that the Steel 44MM wears more balanced on my wrist than the Diver. The Diver seems to weigh just as much if not more than the Steel 44MM because the weight is more concentrated (top heavy?) I am pretty sure I am going to let go a few of my pieces (IWC, Panerai, and Linde Werdelin), maybe keep the Rolex EXP2 42MM (every collection needs to have one Rolex right?) and concentrate on AP. I don't think I can just keep one AP, I don't want to go APs#$t while it is being serviced and be without it for weeks or months. Hmm...what should I get next now that I am certain the Diver and 44MM Novelty are keepers? Quote:
