RIP Hans Wilsdorf
Today, July 6, is the 54th anniversary of the death of Hans Wilsdorf, without whom none of us would be here chatting. An indication of the popularity of Rolex in Hong Kong, his passing made front-page news here. The China Mail was Hong Kong's oldest English-language daily paper at the time.

The man was an absolute genius and what is more, there is every indication that he was also a man of high moral standards and integrity. I think Hans would be very proud of the Rolex company as it exists today, more than 50 years after his death.
Let us hope that 50 years from now, Rolex will still reflect the values of this great man.

He was a great GERMAN born watch maker.
Wilsdorf is the definition of entrepreneur/marketing shark. He was always on top of his game and was always innovating to move his company and the technology forward. I agree, he would be proud of how much is company has achieved. It was truly interesting how the brand name Rolex came about because it was originally Wilsdorf and Davis. They changed the name to Rolex in the early 1900's due to the negative public opinion of Germany and anything tied to Germany... They originally setup shop in the UK but moved production back to Switzerland for tax reasons through they maintained the UK office. |
