Solid Gold Datejust

Hey guys, this is my first post in these forums.

I'm a few months out of college now and I'm currently saving up for my first watch. I actually have a nice Omega Speedmaster Day-Date which I was handed down from my father a couple of years ago, but I'm looking to purchase my own watch that I can say I worked for.

I have a long list of watches that I'm interested in, and near the top of my list is a sold yellow gold Datejust. When I was looking at the Rolex site, I saw that they have a solid gold version of their current Datejust. I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere!

My 2 questions are:

1) Is there really a solid gold version of the current Datejust?

2) What are the major differences between the current model and the previous? The older model seems to be selling for a lot less.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to TRF yes you can get a gold DJ basically the DJ models have changed very little since the introduction of the cal 3135 movement in 1988.Todays models have the same cal 3135 movement except now will have the in-house made escapement parts all the rest just purely cosmetic changes.

I don't see a lot of YG DJ's. I imagine most people opt for the Day Date if they are going full gold on a dress Rolex.

Not sure what you mean by "current model".

You can get an all gold Datejust, but you can not get an all gold Datejust II.

I am not a fan of gold watches but the gold DateJust on the jubilee is actually really nice, it surprised me. Some people prefer it over the DayDate as the dial is a little cleaner plus its a pretty rare watch in comparison. You would be lucky to ever spot one in the wild. If you do a search on here I think there are a couple of members of the forum who have posted pics in the past and very occasionally you see them for sale. If you wanted to go the AD route I would suspect you could swing a pretty big discount as its precious metal and not a popular watch.

Thanks for the info guys! I've finally found an online store that has sells them but the prices are steeeeep for the latest reference in yellow gold!

I'm going to be saving up for a little while longer before I can get one, but I think I'm going to go for the newest reference number model if I go for the yellow gold Datejust. I find the newer strap/clasp and the slightly bigger looking case (I'm still talking about the 36mm) to be very attractive.

The price gap between the two doesn't look to be too big, but I honestly like the simpler dial of the Datejust. Who knows, maybe the DD will eventually grow on me.
