Panerai PAM 292 Stolen. BIZARRE!!
Hello,
I would like to share a bizarre case of how to lose a watch. I don't even know when to start, and it took my a month before I am able to arrive to the conclusion that my watch is indeed gone and I am doing this write up. So I just got a PAM 292 which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was clean, it was classy, and a hell of a watch. I received many compliments for the 292 and was steadily falling in love with it so much so that I haven't stopped wearing the watch for the 2 weeks that I owned it. One friday evening (6-June-2014) I was having dinner with a few friends at a high end shopping mall in Jakarta when my stomach decided to give me a ring, notifying me of a long trip to the bathroom. It took me 30 seconds to go to the bathroom, 1 minute to clean it up, and another 10 seconds to take of my watch and finally sitting down to get to doing my business. 10 minutes later I stood up only to find out that my watch has, amazingly, vanished. I stood there with my mouth wide open, looking at the empty space where my 292 had been placed 10 minutes ago. I soon came to my senses and while still locked in my little cubicle, inspected the whole place. It had vanished into thin air. As of today I have given up all hope of finding the watch and just wish that it will be loved by its next owner... The 292 ![]() |

Um... Why'd you take it off and leave it alone in a public place?

Sorry to hear the news. I hope, somehow, you can recover your watch. Best of luck.

Why would you take off your watch? This is a very strange story... I'm very sorry you lost your watch but what the hell were you thinking? Where did you leave it? There are only a few places where you could leave it.... On top of the bin.... On top of the cistern of the toilet itself.... On top of the toilet paper dispenser.....hanging on the little coat hook on the door....
If you flushed it by accident there may still be a chance that it is in the pipes somewhere or slid down behind the cistern... |

Sorry to hear what has happened to your watch.
A little confused when you said you took off your watch and finally sat down to get your business done. Where did u place your watch when you took it off for 10 mins? Sounds like you left it unattended for 10 mins which is fairly long enough for someone to take it away. Best of luck |

I am in the "tell us why you took your watch off to go to the bathroom" camp.
Sorry to hear though.

Sometimes when you break a natural pattern, you forget what you did. So you need to go back to that time in your mind.
1) Do you always remove your watch when using the toilet? Or only in public toilets? 2) If this was the only occasion, why did you do it? 3) And if it was a break in your usual pattern, and you searched the stall, check the pockets of the clothes you were wearing. You might have slipped it in a pocket in the heat of the moment. 4) In cases like this, I find it useful to draw a time line - an actual line on a piece of paper - and, searching your memory, mark each second of what you did on the paper, to help your memory. Best of luck. |

Ouch!
Ok. Don't do that again! Also don't leave it in the hotel safe either! Just always wear it!

![]() I am certain that I did not flush it down the toilet because the spot in which I placed the 292 is level and the belt buckle which I placed beside my 292 is still in place. I was inside the cubicle the whole time. Locked. |

3. I have checked everywhere including my pockets and also the stall and even the whole toilet ![]() 4. Tried that. Even mapped the toilet and I am still 100% sure of everything that I did. Just amazes me how I could lose a watch this way. Guess crazy things do happen. |

Now with that pic, it makes perfect sense. An acrobat thief from the next compartment with a hook took it over your head. Simple as that. |

Seeing the picture of the toilet, and if you left them on top on that "shelf" behind you, I have to agree that it seems very simple for someone to just lean over and taking your watch without you even noticing it, either if he had long arms or yes with kind of hook, I never, ever take off my watch or wedding ring in any public place, either to wash hands or do anything else… sorry about your loss, guess you won't ever be taking off your watch now...

this is a bizzare story.
the most logical conclusion is that someone spotted you before you entered the bathroom, went into the stall next to you to spy on you while you were doing your business and then jacked your watch when you weren't noticing! are pickpockets common in jakarta? creepy to the max |
