Some AD's just need to chill

I just have to get this off of my chest. Recently I was on my lunch break and decided to take a trip to the local AD, Beard Fine Jewelers, to check out the merchandise. Now I am not the richest guy on the block but I can afford a Rolex or two. Well, as soon as I walked in the sales lady stuck her nose in the air wow I thought to myself. So I asked to see the LV and asked the price 6225 her snooty self said. Ok, I said, any percent off then she said 6225 again. Wow what an ass she was. Fortunatly, My local AD was there to save the day. Thanks for listening and please do not visit Beard Fine Jewelers in Lufkn, Tx LOL

Yeah, some AD's are real turnoffs. My local AD is a gem, however.

Well, most sales people don't have Rolex watches. Therefore, they might think it's too much for others. They should realized that respect is above everything when it comes to Customer Service. If it's in the showcase, everyone have the right to look at it.

Same can be said about lee michaels and dennis jewelry in San antonio,tx.
These low class asswipes tried to write me off since I'm 26.
They also tried to lecture me about rolex and their value as if I didnt research or know about what I wouldve bought from them.
Amazing how snobbery can be developed from those that fight for sales that don't come in huge volumes. And from such dirtbag sales douches.

I ended up going to moretti's here in SA. I got a nice tt datejust with diamond hour markers with no attitude and great service.

Sometimes I wish to be treated at an AD like that. I like to left alone or with my wife to look and I can't get them to leave me alone no matter how much I ask.

Las Vegas Ferarri was the same way. Took my business elsewhere. It happens with all commodities. Funny part is that the people selling these things usually cant afford the product that they are selling.

I think it all depends on how you comport yourself in the store. If you act 'too nice', they figure you're a moron who needs things spelled out. If you're too abrasive, then most people will respond in kind. You have to be assertive, yet civilized and respectful.

I am 22, and nobody has harassed me in an AD yet. But then again, I do let it drop that I am aware of current events in the Rolex world. Usually, talking about SS Daytonas and Basel '08 gets their attention fast, and then they drop the lecturing. Most also give better prices and discounts IMHO because they realize that you will know when they are trying to screw around with you.

This applies at high-end car dealerships, too. I managed a test-drive on a 2001 Porsche 911TT and a NEW Carrera 4S from a snooty dealership and a somewhat condescending salesperson using what I described above.

Interesting experiences, though.

It's always best to take your business elsewhere whenever there is a snotty salesperson involved, then go back with your newly purchase item and rub them with it ever so gently, if you know what I mean!

Rubbing it in sounds kind of fun, but in the end will only be bad for you because they will probably act even worse. You lose all hope of getting a good deal afterwards.

In any case, gloating and rubbing in are examples of poor form, IMHO.

Most AD's in the Toronto area are realistic with there prices, but to sell to a potential customer as if they don't deserve to purchase this watch is ridiculous.
If I end up purchasing elsewhere and I received outstanding service then I'm a lifer there.
My business is theres too lose!

From what I've seen so far, Toronto dealers are MORE THAN FAIR with their pricing, especially re. the SD. Maybe it was because I was in a suit that they gave me more respect, but they also seemed friendlier than the Vancouver AD's.

For me, outstanding service is worth about 200-300 dollars premium over crappy service. However, getting better service AND saving money AND getting the same watch at several hundred less than in Vancouver makes it a real no-brainer!

i too have had this experience more times than i can count.

but i have learned to wear a nice watch when treading into hostil AD territory. for some reason wearing a gold or platinum watch into the AD always gets me a better offer/discount and no snootiness ...

even my own AD treats me better when he sees i purchased something nice elsewhere when he said he couldnt get it.

It's the same where ever you go! Last year in June when I was looking into putting a deposit down on my GMT II-C. I went to AD's in San Jose, San Francisco, and Walnut Creek Ca. No one, gave me the time of day!!!! Finally at Davidson and Licht in Walnut Creek they treated me like a rock star! I was dressed in my usual gym clothing (Old baggy t-shirt, scrub bottoms from the hospital and OR clogs). They offered me chocolate mints, and bottled water. They took there time with me explaining much about Rolex. I then asked if I could put a deposit down on the up coming GMT II-C. The sales person said he didn't know if he could do that, at that time another gentleman walked up behind me and asked "what was going on?" I explained that I wanted to put a deposit down on the up coming GMT II-C he stated that the first one that came in was for display, and that the second one that came in would be mine. He stated that He could not promise a time frame. I agreed, put money down and had it in a month! They guy "Jon" that I talked to ended up being the owner. Every time I go in there, they clean my watch, offer me candy, water while I wait! They also polish the bracelet of the watch once a year free of charge for the life of the watch!!!! I will buy my future watches through them only!!!! Jeremiah, Raphael, Jon, and the rest of the staff there are first class!!! Mel at the San Jose store is first class as well!!!! Sorry you had a bad experience!!! But it took me about 7 visits before I scored!!! Keep looking there has to be one close to you!!!! They stuck to the MSRP, $5950 on this one but told me that they could bend a little for a different model, like a Sub. They made my purchase a very memorable one!!!! The way it should be!!!!

I hate folks like that.
I'm not well off but my AD has been there for me since I was in my twenties. They have let me drool over the Rolex counter, have educated me, have given me old copies of Watchtime and Patek Philippe brochures. They recently gave me a red Rolex wallet, handkerchief and two card holders. Even if all I bought was a gold charm for my wife's bracelet they always showed me the same respect as the guy buying an $18,000 watch (happened once). They call me by name and ask how my son is whenever I walk in. When my wife bought my GMT there was only one place for her to shop. They get all my business. They are my only jeweler. Someday i hope to give them more Rolex business.

The OR outfit was probably a good indicator that you could afford a new Rolex

It is quite a crapshoot finding good/bad AD's, though.

See this is an issue with sales in general. The older generation forgets that the workers of now or interest earners are usually in casual clothes either at work or home, or are in scrubs or any other laid back clothing.

I had this same problem when looking for a house.

Regardless, I was dressed nicely each time since I came from work.

People that are able to finally afford these don't have to and shouldn't have to show it through outward appearance. They can show it with their money at the sales table, their mannerisms and their seriousness in the sales situation.

Again writing off a person is poor form. Not only is it a poor reflection of you as a human, but it is also casts a poor reflection on your sales quota and your commission.

Anyway, rolexes are nice.

I have purchased 3 different Rolexes in my life, each from an AD and each time I was treated well. Coincidentally, Torneau was the one place that ignored me. I left and bought my DD elsewhere.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with an unprofessional sales person. It seems to me this salesperson has her head in the sand, with the latest Rolex price hike and the economy in the U.S. slowing if I were selling Rolex I would be as polite as possible. The glory days of Rolex sales in the U.S. could be over for a time.

There are some pain in the ass AD's. I still remember looking round for my first white gold daytona. I was 27 it was my birthday and the dealer,kept on trying to suggest I might want some thing more affordable within my budget. He ket on talking down to me, so with the recommendation of another AD by a fellolw WIS. I went and got one,

I don't get why businesses do this! I mean they are only hurting themselves!

They act like they are doing US a favor by selling us a $6k watch!! Aren't WE the ones doing THEM a favor by buying??
