I also own 3+ rolex in my collection

But I wouldn't consider my self an average.
I'm more of a complete addict (a little cray cray when it comes to decision making during purchase)

Hmm I'm at two. These things are addicting. Then we have enablers on trf holding half the case to raise the average!

far from rich, I just like watches. and set a bit of money aside for my watch fund any chance I get. I figure if I start early enough, my collection might be as impressive as some of the collectors I look up to on the forum

Me too - but think it would be difficult to quantify for Rolex owners around the globe.

lol

TRF members are not average, we're completely nuts to the people outside of the world of watches

I'd agree, 1 maybe 2 is the average

In my line of work, I see 1 Rolex out of 6 business owners out here.
which i see the same watch on everyday for the past 6 years ive been around here.

So i'd assume they only own 1 also, but they see me switch around. Sort of look at me if i have fakes or im out of my mind

A good sales technique: "The average Rolex owner owns 3, and I see you only own one. Well, let's see if we can raise you up to the norm."

I do that in kindergarten and now I have grown with my collection. But I'm not average in any respect, so I guess I do not fit this profile.

My intention was to only own 1 Rolex, so waited for a SS GMTIIC to become available and bought that. Then had a call from an AD to offer me number 2 and it was hard to turn down. Decided to settle at 2 Rolexes until I went to an AD and saw number 3 which I always wanted and was way too tempting to resist.

So now have 3. No more!

However most people I know who own a Rolex have at least two. It becomes an addiction.

It would be interesting to see how this AD came up with the number 3. I reckon sales tactic to make you buy another one too.

Anecdotal evidence - From friends and family I know, I would say around half have one Rolex while the other half have multiple Rolexes (and other watch brands).

The majority probably have one Rolex. And they also don't hang out on TRF. I'm guessing that we (WIS's) make up a very tiny percentage.

I would think this, maybe the average Rolex "collector" has three but I can't imagine your average Joe would have three.

Only if you've told them you are satisfied with your two.
