My upcoming purchase keeps getting more expensive!

So to start it all out, I have posted one other thread a few months ago about my desire to save up for a nice watch. I am a 16 year old student who will be going to college in 2 years and I already have saved up more than enough money for what I'll need in college. I already have had a new Mercedes purchased for me by my parents to which I am extremely grateful for! My college is already paid for and everything. Basically what I am trying to say is, I wouldn't be spending all my money on something that is not a priority.
So I started saving for a new watch. I originally started out thinking I would get a omega smp for a 1500. Then I figured I quickly got there and decided a brietling superocean would be cool at 2800. Then I though I thing a pelagos or a black bay would be the best bang per buck at around 3500. Then onto a older sea dweller for around 5000. Then a 39mm explorer for 5500. No I have my mind set on a 114060 for 6500. Now as you can see and many of you experience, this is one expensive addiction. Now I have saved up about 4000 dollars so far and could save up the extra 2500 by Christmas time. Any thoughts on my thoughts!

Honestly,
doesn't matter if it's 5 bucks to 130k
It's what you really want on your wrist, If you have a set budget for a watch lets say 10k, just look for any of your dream watch within that budget.

If your dream watch is 12k, save up the 2k more or find deals a local AD or sites.

It's ultimately what your passion and love is for your watch and what you'll be enjoy wearing on your wrist. My collection has some pricey (at least to me) watches but surprisingly, my Movado's and SubC are my fav pieces.

It wasn't about how much they were for me, it was my love for them.

with that said,
as your first watch, and if you're into rolex.. want a daily beater that'll last and useful functions, SubC is my recommendation
and congrats on your college ! lifes about to flip around lol for good and bad it's a fun time ! I'd look into the LV models as in college some color would be great fun on your wrist

Go for the Sub. Otherwise you may regret not getting it, and be unhappy with the less expensive watches. Check on this site (the For Sale forum) for some that might be available from David SW and other trusted sellers.

Oh, may sure your parents are okay with the purchase (tell them it is a life-long investment) and have it insured under their policy. Things like Rolexes have a way of being stolen from younger people (I speak from experience).

By the title I first thought one specific watch you want keeps going up in price.

I'm not big on advising other people what to buy but I will make two seemingly contradictory points:

1. Money spent on something you don't really want is money wasted.

2. This probably won't be the last watch you buy.

Considering you're 16, I hardly think this is something you should even be thinking of. You should be focused on one thing right now and it isn't watches ;)


I respect you ability to save up $4000 at 16, that's pretty significant, but, dropping that sort of dough on a watch at your age seems a bit insane IMO.

A used Sub would be a great watch. One that can be enjoyed for a lifetime or until you finish HS go to College and start a career. Then, when you start making the big buck$ you can really start collecting!

I wonder if this post is a complete fabrication, as very few (like none) 16 year old kids have saved enough to put himself through four years of college, let alone buy a Rolex. Even if there is some truth to this post, taking a Rolex away to college? Give me a break.

Get the Sub.
You want something rugged that can take the college beating. During college I wasn't comfortable bringing any watch that I couldn't wear to the pool, gym, track, or even the showers. This includes those on leather, PVD'd, or without shock resistance. Naturally, my 14060M accompanied me throughout undergrad.

From experience, you never want to leave it out of sight. If you're active, the Sub is the preferred choice - you can even switch to nato when weight/heat is a factor. Maybe consider one with Al bezel so you can go worry free.
