Hi all,
I'm in the market for a gold vintage piece. I've seen two nice pieces. Both 18k. A DJ 1601 and a DD 1803. Both good condition on leather straps. Similar prices. The gold DJ seems harder to find in the UK. I wonder if that means that it's a better investment?
Which one would anybody else go for?

I think the DJ is made in less numbers?

Less made but day date is always worth a bit more.

Very different investment pieces if you ask me. 1803 always higher end; 1601 lower end. I don't have stats, but I'd guess 1803 is rarer.

A nice 1803 with bracelet has always brought more $ and seems to wear bigger on the wrist. m

He is talking bout all gold 1601 which is much rarer than both 1803 or regular 1601. Most people don't know rolex even made all gold datejust, so they might get the wrong idea ;)

Yeah. Thanks.I know that ordinarily a day date is more prestigious that a datejust but I'm just wondering if that the rarity of the gold datejust may make it a better long term investment. This is the only one I've ever seen in the flesh..

DD , no question. Even though the 1601 is rarer, demand is way less for it.

Of course the choice should also depend on the condition and originality of the two pieces. Some gold DJs have much rarer dials than DDs.

I'm pretty sure the gold DJ 1601 was built on the same case as the 1803. The case I'm familiar with has the shoulder between the lugs-- unlike a tt or ss 1601. On a strap they are close to identical.
