Does restored face affect selling price?
Hi, everyone. I'm still looking for that perfect antique Rolex. I've come across many with restored faces. How does this affect the value? The ones I've seen seem to have been very well done. Also, I've come across the Rolco movements-- are these common in the very early Rolexes? I'm looking at watches from 1920s through the forties.
Here is an example of one- Rolco movement, restored dial. The movement looks a little gunky, but just wondering about the Rolco. I can't stay away from the old ones! Thanks again! |

Due to the fact that these watches weren't waterproof, many of the dials have suffered from humidity and aging over the years. It does effect the value quite a bit, if you want a redialed watch there's nothing wrong with it, but takes away from the vintage charm in my opinion. Early on rolex rarely appeared on the dial of the watch, so most of these wouldn't be done "right" to most collectors. If you want a vintage rolex with a good condition dial, I would suggest finding an early enamel dialed version. Rolco was fairly common on early rolex movements.
