Daytona 6263 Serial Number and Variants...

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had a clear reference on the timeline for the Rolex Daytona 6263 and when Dial, Bezel and Pusher variants emerged. Particularly I'm wondering what Serial Number/Year Mk.2 Pushers became Mk.3 and when the Red Daytona text appeared on the Silver Dial, either in year or serial number. Also, when the Floating Daytona started appearing.

I'm currently in the market for a 6263 and I want to learn more about them. I've looked over Stefano Mazzariol's website which lists the variants but one thing it doesn't show is when dials and bezels and pushers changed from one type to another.

Would like to be a better educated buyer when I finally do come across one I like.

Thanks!
Bill

The red "Daytona" text started around the 5 million serial range.

Regarding the pushers, mark 3's didn't really appear consistently on screw down daytona's until the mid 7 million serial range.

Michael,

Thanks! Where does one find information like this? I feel like TRF should have this stuff available for those who need to find it.

Mondani has nice Daytona book for sale. Good info & lots of scans.
As to TRF "should have this info available" information costs time & money, pledge member? M

Knowing when each variant of 6263/5 bezel started being used would be helpful too to those wishing to replace a later service bezel with correct period part.

It seems the cases/bezels for 6263s were enlarged during the production run. I've seen early Big Red 6263s that are closer to 36mm vs later ones that measure at 37mm. The case also appears slightly larger as well. Is this accurate or simply manufacturing variances?

6263/6265 cases from the 80s are a little bigger than those from the 70s ( that basically are the same you have in 6262/4 and latest 6239/6241 ) and these are in turn a little bigger than cases from the 60s ( with the " round back " ).
