GMT II - AD says "no discount"

Just visited my AD here in Toronto looking for a non-ceramic GMT II. He showed me a nice Pepsi and a Coke and when we started talking price he basically told me there is no room for discussion around any discount, which was strange because I had dealt with him before and he loves to barter. He more or less admitted to me that they were hoarding them and charging top dollar. He said "oh you must be a collector because only collectors are buying these discontinued models now, but we can talk deal if you want a new ceramic one".

I had a similar experience. I just bought an "M" series Pepsi and there was no way I was getting a discount. I had to pay $5,750 for it also. BUT, it probably has the new 3186 movement as it passed the "wiggle" test with flying colors!

Dont think the modern GMT11 will ever become that collectable just to many of them around, nearly 20 years in production and with only very minor cosmetic changes.Find another AD yours is talking bull~~~~ many still discount the GMT11.

I bought a Z series Pepsi in February with 20% off and no tax. Don't know what movement it has. How can you tell without opening it?

I bought a GMT II (Pepsi) last month and didn't get any discount. Last one the AD had. I did get a significant discount on a Breitling that I bought at the same time so it worked out.

Same here. My AD would love to sell everyone he had at a nice discount. He won't budge on a ceramic but will deal in a minute on an old GMT II.

I'm looking to buy a new GMT II M-series "Pepsi."

I am in Los Angeles. I have only found them at Ben Bridge here in L.A. and they want $5750.00 plus tax.

I will be in San Francisco on April 4 and Berkeley on April 5, if anyone knows of an AD who will discount.

Thanks.

Felly,

Would you mind PM me the AD? I live in San Francisco area and I am going to Oregon this weekend. I am looking for 2 GMT ll now. This afternoon I talked to an AD there, and got a deal of about 7% off.

Doc, I ordered mine from a private seller. LNIB "D" serial.

There's no way that I'm paying list price for a watch that is a dime a dozen. The GMT II is a great watch, but rare it isn't.

I expect there to be hundreds of thousands of these in at least mint condition for the next decade.

Why are these stores selling their watches for higher than their list prices?? They are not shown in the most current price list so they should still be priced at their 'old' prices!

Because the II has been discontinued, dealers can pretty much sell them for whatever they want.

Every AD I've talked to has told me that the price list they got from Rolex put the new MSRP of the (16710) GMT II at $5,750. There's been at least a dozen AD's that have told me this.

If that falls through I know an AD in Oregon that has two in the case but probably no discount, just no tax. Felly's deal will be better as usual.

Hmm, my AD has them still priced at $5075! I'll have to visit them again to see if they have changed them at all.

We bought 2 GMT II 16710 at $5075 each on April 5 in Oregon. We went to Crater Lake the next day morning. This is my first wrist shot.
Thanks to Han, Felly, and KansaiVet for all the advices.
It is running about +14s/day, I am kind of disappointed. I hope it will get better over time.

I agree, what a nice pic of the watch amidst a beautiful backdrop.

Congratulations on the watch, and welcome to TRF.
