Washington, DC Cherry Blossom Festival

Hi all.

Every year I try to shoot the blossoms, and I went out late yesterday to snap some pics. This year is a strange year since the peak is early - March 27-April 3. Unfortunately, we have had some weird weather. It was low 40s yesterday, and the weather is supposed to be bad with rain through the rest of peak season. Another minor letdown is that the trees appear to be pruned quite radically, so the grandeur is a bit less than in past years.

Anyway, it was cold and cloudy, but I managed a few decent ones... All of these are straight off the camera, no Photoshop trickery. It's tough shooting the festival IMO, I figure in a few decades I might know what I'm doing...

Great pics, especially the one's with the Jefferson Memorial in the background. I wonder if it could have also been in focus with a higher f-stop?

If you're talking about 7th one down... that was taken at f22! It's hard when the branches are so close and the lens is so zoomed. The 3rd one down was taken at f13, so it probably could have nearly been in focus. Some of the others are sharper still, but mainly due to composition + focal length.

Yes, but excellent effort and results nonetheless!

Beautiful beautiful photos. I really wish I could go see it in real life. The first one is my favourite, the memorial is so bright but everything else looks so eerie.. love them!
