YM 16622 vs. 116622. Worth the extra scratch?
I am looking to purchase a SS YM to add to my collection in the future. I have the full gold one and like the model. Now I am discussing with my self on whether I should get the 5-digit one or the 6-digit one that was released for Basel 2013?
If I get the 5-digit one, I would switch the dial to the blue one. I know that the case is different and the deployment buckle on the 116622 vs. the 16622. However the 5-digit one still have SEL and solid mid-links which would make the bracelet sturdy enough. What is the common understanding here? Better to cough up the extra dough and go for the 6-digit one or be satisfied with the 5-digit one? |

I own a Yacht-Master 16622 and love that watch. When the 116622 was released back in 2013, I thought that Rolex made the perfect Yacht-Master with all of the upgrades provided, especially with the clasp. The clasp is the one thing for me that is the weakest point of the 16622. I can't really tell the difference regarding the case when I compared my 16622 to the 116622 at the AD last year.
In any event, if your intent is to switch the the dial to a blue dial for the 16622, then I would suggest you to purchase the 116622 as it comes with the blue dial along with all of the other upgrades. Well worth the additional cost in my opinion. The reason why I keep my 16622 is because I love the look of my "sand-blasted" platinum dial. The platinum dial of the 116622 does not have this look. If it did, I most likely would have traded up by now. Hope this helps. |

I have a 2003 F serial YM. I purchased it used two years ago and have loved it so much. I love the platinum dial and the different look it has from the others. Either way you go you will not be disappointed.

Much more sparkling. Solid endlinks and bracelet with old style tuna can clasp. If you want blue, no option but to get the 116622. The clasp is the only improvement imo.

116622 all the way, the improvements are worth the extra cash hands down.
