I recently discovered the Rolex forum and the members in the Vintage section gave some good info on my Explorer II which is now being serviced. What brings me to the Omega section is that I needed to have a watch to wear while the Rolex is being worked on. I looked in my bureau drawer and discovered my late father-in-law's old Seamaster which had sat there for over 40 years. I wound it and it ran for 4 days when it stopped and refused to run again. My questions are: is the watch worth being repaired, and does it have any collector value? It certainly has sentimental value to me as he was a really nice guy. As you can see from the attached photos the watch has had some use. The crystal and the case both have scratches. The band is a Speidel (are they still in business?). Any information that you can give me would be appreciated. After digging through that drawer again I came up with a Waltham self-winder which I'm sure is older than the Seamaster. It's been running for a week and keeps perfect time.

Front loader Seamaster. You're missing the seconds hand. Al Archer or Rik Dietel in Florida can sort you out

What do you mean by "front loader"?

It means the caseback does not come off.. Everything comes out of the front of the watch.

That's a gem and absolutely worth fixing! And as Joe points out, those are the two guys to have do it! JMHO

And while it's being fixed you can always pick up a G-Shock as a daily spare...

Checked out both watchmakers you mentioned and will probably go with Rick as he is in the states. Thanks for the info. What would this watch be worth for insurance purposes?

I would really like an answer as to the value of this watch. I can't see spending $500 to repair a $200 watch.

We don't do valuations here, it's against the rules but it's worth more than $200.

Insurance valuations are for replacement value.. so, you would need a statement from a Dealer that a new Seamaster would cost 5,000 bucks (or whatever) and that's what you insure for.

If you're just interested in your market value it is easily researched in a few minutes anywhere on the Internet.

Finding information on this watch is easier said than done. I've been on Google, Amazon, Fleabay, etc. I've seen pictures of Seamasters whose faces closely resemble mine but nothing that's an exact match. I've also tried a few online dealers but nothing found. Where else should I look? Is this some obscure variation of the Seamaster??
