The Definitive Ceramic Submariner Date vs No-Date Thread (116610 vs 114060)

Although the cleanliness of the dial and lack of a cyclops will always be a selling point for the ND sub, I think that most people will still prefer a date. Based on what I've seen, the resale values are higher for the 116610 models. Go ahead and post your opinion. This will be my first poll thread.

I have both. Very tough call. For the basic black model I would go with the no date given the symmetry but the LV is also appealing...

If only one would go date. It has the date, plus, it has the classic Rolex cyclops, it is classic Rolex, I vote date.

I was surprised learning about the number of folks that actually like the cyclops. Most people I've spoken with IRL list it as their only gripe about the SubC date.

My reasoning is that if I wanted a no-date sub, I'd rather pay a bit more and get a Daytona.

If it was to be my only watch I would go with the date model.
If it was part of a collection where I had other watches with a date, for example, the GMT II, I would go for a No Date.

For me the Sub with date and cyclops is the icon and what I would buy.

But I do enjoy the clean look of the dial which is why I would lean more towards a Sea Dweller than a no date Sub.

That being said the no date sub is also a true classic that I would never scorn or put down in any way. Its a magnificent design in and of itself.

If only one the date, or if you want TT or YG.

Hmm, that's true. I forgot that they don't make YG or WG references for the no-date.

I voted SubC. I have a Daytona, and lived with an Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch before that. If my watch has no date, I remember it the first time I look it up. If it does have a date, I use it as a crutch every time I need to know what the date is. Now that I have the Daytona, the SubC 114060 is close to the top of my "Next New Rolex" list, which is competing with the "Next Vintage Rolex" list (1665 Sea Dweller and 1016 Explorer head that one).

Resale values may be higher for the 116610 but in my opinion, that's because they cost more to begin with. No date for me...

Well, I have a 116610 so I had to vote for it! I always prefer a date on my watches, and while I wasn't a big fan of the cyclops to begin with, I am coming to like it more and more.

The Definitive Ceramic Submariner Date vs No-Date Thread (116610 vs 114060)

I have a 116610 LV, so that's my vote! On a serious note, I would always prefer a watch with a date to one without. I went for the LV partly because I already had three black dial Rolexes and partly because I really liked the green sunray dial.

If I could choose only one, it would have to be the 116610 because of the date function.

Resale values should be measured against full MSRP.

Two things to remember:

1) Both watches are great
2) There can never be a 'definitive' poll on this matter

My 14060m tells how I vote

I have one of each (although pre-ceramic), but I vote no date as it was my first Rolex and still my true love.

I'm getting the ND as my very first Rolex ever at the end of this year/beginning 2015.
Reason being? There is non actually, I just got more attracted to the simplicity and cleanness of the ND over the Date version. Owning the Sevenfriday also made me realise I don't need a date function on a watch, you just remember the date or grab your smartphone or whatever.

Furthermore, I plan on owning a GMT Master 2 or Datejust (vintage) in the futher, I therefor don't need a date on my sub :)
