AP Diver VS Omega PloProf...

So guys, help me out....

I recently sold my AP 15300, felt I needed something more substantial and sporty on my wrist...

I always really loved the Diver and it was a close call between it and the 15300 but a good deal on a 15300 came along and I went for it...

But some things nagged me about the 15300, I regret that I did not get a blue dial (I had the black dial), and it felt a bit too fragile for my taste, so it basically became a dress piece and I can not justify to have that much money in a watch that do not get the wristtime it deserves...

So, I have been on the hunt for a Diver for some weeks, almost bought one but the seller decided to keep it (understandable) and also waiting for another seller to contact me and if the price is right I most likely get it...

But but but.....since I had some trouble getting one (pre-loved) I also started thinking of another big sporty Diver that I always loved but never owned, that is the Omega PloProf...

The advantage of getting the PloProf is that it is roughly half the price of the diver (even less) and possible to get the orange rubber (wich is my fav) and the black rubber and also mesh, + I most likely can squeeze in one or two other watches...still miss my PAM and I need a Rolex Datejust or Omega Speedy PRO....

Of course, Omega is not as fun as AP brand wise, but the PloProf have something, it is unique looking which i like...

I still have my beloved SubC and it is a keeper...

What do you guys think, I guess I should stick with the AP Diver plan, but what are your opinions of the PloProf in general...

Go for the Diver. As you already know, AP is at another level. Good luck with the hunt!

AP for me. I can't say I am a fan of that Omega reference.

Are you a serious diver? If so, the ploprof and 2 other iconic pieces would be my choice. If not I'd take the 15300, I mean diver:)

I'm in the minority here with you then. I love my Ploprof and enjoy it on rubber as well as mesh. It is a truly unique piece with a solid history and relationship with diving.

I love the AP diver as well, nothing negative to say about it.

Its amazing how comfortable such a large watch can be. The clasp is a work of art that balances the watch head nicely. The adjustment rivals the Deep Sea in its execution.

Plus my wife gets to call it the Pro Plop

Enjoy your choice for many years to come.

And when the itch strikes to get another AP then go for it.

Audemars Piguet is in my opinion, tied for the position of best watch manufacturer in the world with PP. Omega is also great, but just not at the same level. I owned a diver, and I really liked it. I've also been minutes away from buying a Ploprof. So, having owned one, and wanting another, I can't tell you. But, I will anyway. go for the AP Diver

AP Diver.

Get the ROO bracelet and survivor hornback and you'll have plenty of options from casual to dressy.

It's like comparing tag to Rolex. AP is the answer.

AP, as I'm not a fan of that omega aesthetically speaking. If it does something for you, then go for it. I'd certainly be more comfortable with the omega in a wetsuit.

The Omega Ploprof is certainly a very unique watch. It is just too "strong" for me for daily wear. I'm biased in that I have two AP divers currently. Nice watch but I'd rather the AP.

The ploprof is nice and all, but if you go for one, go Vintage!

The new one isn't true to the original.

Between a Diver, Ploprof and Sub....

Diver!

I have owned my Diver for a couple of years and love it! It is due for service however so hopefully will be running on all cylinders again soon.

Have no clue about Omegas as they are so far off my radar (and not in a good way). Grab a ceramic AP Diver and be done with it. Keep your sub and have a great AP. Omega...um, no.

Ceramic diver for me. Not a fan of the ploprof + you are already covered on the diver / beater segment with your Sub

Sorry AP Diver, this match was lost -I decided to go with an Omega PloProf and a Rolex DJII instead...

Still love AP and might still own a Diver some day but for now the PloProf will have to cover my Big Rubberstrap Diver category +I also got a Rolex DJII 1166334 so now my dress(ish) category is also covered....

Very happy...

Sorry for being late to the discussion, here are my 2 cents:

There are two types of watches for us WIS's: the keepers and the ones that are fun to own and wear. It it seems to me (I could be wrong) that the Rolex Submariner is the true keeper in your collection. All is good and well.

I'm a bit in the same camp. I really dig some AP watches, but I'm not sure those are watches I see myself using in 20 years, thus I know they are short-termers, and as such one shouldn't overthink what comes and goes. It is just for fun. On some you'll make money, on others you'll lose a few bucks. I view it as cheap rent.

As much as I dig the AP Diver, I personally didn't find it fitting my wrist perfect, and on top of that, I found the bezel too sensitive for wear and tear, at least in the matter I use my watches (I refuse to change my lifestyle or behaviour depending on what watch I wear).

I think you made a great choice on the Omega Ploprof 1200. It is a fun and happy watch. I doubt it will be with you for many, many years, but enjoy it will you have it!

Buy what you're comfortable with, these watches are so different that's its a strange question to ask from people you are unlikely to ever meet.
