What's going on with 5513's

Why are the matte MAXI's Going up in price so ridiculously. Maybe I am mistaken And there are a lot of wishful thinkers out there but it appears the prices are going up?! I've seen several 83's for $7000 head only recently. That's over 2000 more than I paid for mine a little over a year ago.

They're going up, just like everything else. I do agree that 5513 maxi dials have been on a sharp accent but so have most 4 digit sport models.

Lucky you bought when your did

There's growing interest in vintage Rolexes and expanding outlets to sell them competing for supply... amid this, the 5513 is the perfect "gateway drug" if you're going to become an addict or create one.

We'll said. The 5513 has wide spread appeal to seasoned and beginning collectors alike. Prices on 5513s seem to have risen faster than other plexi references IMO.

Same goes for reds. Around 10k over a year ago now a nice condition example will run over 13k. It's getting crazy.

Back when I was looking for a watch, I found the price increases for vintage Subs/SDs to be more than GMTs and Explorers. The frightening part is they're all going up, so start saving and collecting now.

That right there is my dream scenario, beautiful. The pearl doesn't look bad at all.

Hey, if you folks keep showing all these 5513s people will realize there are a lot about and the prices will come down... was that the intention of Rashid, who is lusting after one in Post No. 5 and asked for pics...

I wanted to buy one 2 years ago but ended up not pulling the trigger. Now it's way out of my price range. Sad day. I think it's the best looking Rolex.

Nearly bought one two years ago but passed because I thought the prices were inflated. The joke was on me... ended up paying nearly $1,500 more than I would have in 2012 when I finally made the purchase last month. No idea if prices will continue to rise or not, but I wasn't about to kick myself again in 2016 if these watches continue to explode in price.

Well, they are easy to come by, but condition is key. A nice example is still going to be harder to obtain than a pieced together beater IMO. Right now it is a sellers market and the only thing that is going to slow it down is an economy correction.

Back to the original question, I think that the maxi dial variants in particular are becoming more expensive for two reasons, first, the dial designs of the new watches are paying homage to the maxi variation with the larger lume plots, and second... the maxi's look the best (ok ok this is just my opinion but seriously, for those of us who love tritium with patina... the more the merrier! )

In any case, I can tell you my opinion as to why the mk1 maxi in particular is so sought after. First, it is the first of the maxi variants, second, it is exactly the same dial configuration as one of the most sought after subs out there, the 5517 millsub. And lastly, it is the last sub with the depth print on the top and sports the largest lume plots (I've seen mk3s next to mk1s and think that the mk1s are larger). Anyway, if you like maxi these are just small nuance reasons that makes an already fun watch (the 5513) even more fun for me.

Took me a while to find this... couldn't be happier with it.

What's going on with 5513's

Been wondering about the 5513 price increase recently, as well. It even has out priced the 5512 which is produced in much less quantity and has a better movement. I mean for a non-chronometer Rolex watch (the lowly Datejust and OP even has a better movement), it is doing really well.

The GMT 1675 is another vintage reference that is doing well value wise. I remember seeing good samples being sold for $5500 at the start of 2013. Now, good samples are being offered and sold at more than $8000. Amazing!

Ok I'm curious since I have each. What is a nice meters first 5512 and a PCG Gilt Chapter Ring 1675 going for these days?
