Do you own both the 36mm AND 39mm Explorers?

I've got the 39mm Explorer, which I think is absolutely extraordinary! I fact, I think the design of the Explorer is so fabulous, I'm seriously considering getting the 36mm version too. Aside from the question of how mental that idea is, does anyone here have both? My wrist is 6.75" and I actually think the 36mm would look better. Anyway, I'd be interested to read your comments. Thanks. Adam.

Nope, I had the 39mm but as great as I think it is I moved it and found a NOS 114270. Love it.

Lol, yeah I own one of each and I do think it's quite mental , but I don't care. My wrist is 7.25 and they both wear so comfortable. I keep the 39mm on a leather strap and the 36mm on the bracelet.

Interestingly enough, I had the 39 before I got the 36, but one day DavidSW had a pristine 36mm and could not help myself.

I have a 36 mm Explorer for my everyday bang around timepiece and I have a small wrist, all but two links have been taken out, it is extremely comfortable.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Adrian - your pictures prove my point. Your wrist is larger than mine yet the 36mm Explorer looks perfect, in my opinion. Now, where will I be able to find a new or pristine 114270, with the engraved rehuat...?

Always wanted one but found the 36mm too small for my wrist, so when the 39mm came out I just knew I had to have it. Boy am I glad I did!

Have a 114270, love the size and elegance, don't think I would ever entertain adding the 39mm version, would opt to add a 14060 instead. My two cents

I only have the 36mm, but will one day buy the 39mm to add to my collection!

I have the 39mm, but would love to get one of the older 36mm with the lume painted numbers (the 1016) instead of the white gold. I wouldn't get the smaller version of the same watch in this case, but have nothing against getting a vintage piece that also happens to be a smaller version.

Keep your eyes on the for sale section. They do pop up.

My eyes are peeled It does seem like most of the sellers are in the US and I'm in the UK, which is a bit of an issue as far as import VAT is concerned.

I have the 39 mm and love it. Shortly after acquiring it, I wanted another Rolex, different, but similar than the Expl.

I picked up a white dialed Airking, albeit smaller case, but still looked great on my 7" + wrist.

You may not really gain much by re buying what you already have.
Get something different.

Since wearing 38mm and up on most days, I'm finding my preference shift away from the 36's. Case in point, I just cut loose a mint G-serial Turnograph Datejust I thought was too small. I basically tried it on 3-4 times, wore it all day once, and watched it spin on the winder as if I'd wear it again.
I spent $350 for that privilege:(

Thanks for all of your comments.

I've found one in the UK which really hits the spot (looks like excellent condition Z serial with engraved rehaut, which is what I was after, and at a sensible price, although from an untrusted source) but I'm just beginning to doubt how I can possibly justify having more than 2 fine watches. My 214270 is my smart dress/work watch and my polar 16570 is for all other times. What possible reason do I have for buying another watch? Even if the Explorer remains, to my mind, the most perfect watch I've ever seen.

Hmm... bit of a dilemma, to be honest. On the one hand, I'm thinking that the longer I leave getting the 36mm version, the less chance I'll ever have of getting one in excellent condition (not to mention the price going up), but on the other hand... I simply don't need it.

I'm just thinking out loud...

Sorry. Don't own either (yet). Due to collect my 214270 on Tuesday. Tried on both 114270 and 214270 when deciding. I've been wearing a 1966 Seamaster for a year (absolutely love that watch) so reckoned the 39mm would feel too big and the 36mm would feel right but I was wrong. The 114270 felt small on my wrist. 3mm made a huge difference in my opinion although not sure if it would be enough to justify the purchase of two very similar models.
