Rolex President DD with aftermarket parts

Hi everyone,

I know this should probably be in the for sale/ wanting to buy section, but for some reason I couldn't post a new thread in there. Also, as I am typing this, I realize that it is becoming a novel, but I want to give the best detail I can.

Anyway, I am NOT trying to sell this watch, just get some feedback on what I could sell it for, or add/subtract to it to add value. I am a newbie, so bear with me.

I recently purchased a Rolex President DD with an aftermarket diamond dial, aftermarket diamond bezel, and aftermarket diamonds added to an original rolex band (I spoke with an appraiser at a rolex certified dealer, and that now makes it an aftermarket band as well....I just can't catch a break). The working parts are original rolex. The serial number places it in the 1971-1973 range of production.

I know pics would be the best thing here, but I have no idea of how to put them on the computer.

I received an appraisal of $9,500 from the Rolex certified jewelers. If I sold it as-is, what would be a fair market price? It has just over 4 ounces of 18k gold, and approximately 3.75 total carats of diamonds. The diamonds are an average of VSI-VSII in clarity and H in Color.

If I wanted to add any original rolex parts, what would be the best in terms of adding value for a possible future sale?

Thanks in advance, and for the mods, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

Joe

Joe,

An appraisal by a jeweler for a watch with diamonds will give you an insurance document, and may tell you about the diamonds...but it is not very good to come up with the market value of the watch.. (unless you find somebody who really, really likes the watch)

A 1971 Day Date is worth 4-7,000 bucks depending on condition..

If you really needed to get your moneys worth with an afternarket diamond bezel watch, you need to return it to an original bezel and sell the diamonds separately.

(I think that's how that diamond bezel necklace fad started...all those aftermarket bezels that don't increase the value of the watch make fine bling..)

Thanks Tools!

I appreciate the info. I do love this watch. I suppose the most i will do with it is possibly purchase a new diamond dial for it (there is some sort of film on it right now). Other than that, it looks great, and I now have my dress rolex for special occasions

Welcome to the Forum
If you like the watch, I'd leave it. If you want to replace everything (bezel, band, dial, etc...) to make money, I think your wasting your time. There's a market for original and customized Rolex's.
It sounds like a nice watch. I'd love to see pics. If you have any, you can e-mail them to me and I'll post them for you. PM me.
