Just got mine out of the safe box. I agree with removing the divers extension but I removed 2 links and got the same effect. I think the extension is part of the watch's personality and wanted to keep it.

Its a great watch but I'm still not sure of its place between the sub and DSSD in the Rolex line up. Would love some continued discussion on this piece :)

For me, the watch has 2 design elements that I prefer. The bezel and no cyclops over the sub. The DSSD is just too hideously big for me (my wrist), so that wasn't an option. I guess it's the goldilocks effect.

SD 4000 is a great watch - gotta sit between the Deepsea and the Sub - wears very nicely especially with the extension removed!

SubC is enuf chunky.... Sd4k is beautifull and a good choice if you need the date. Sdds is too big

It's a worthwhile and IMO attractive option in the Rolex catalogue.

It offers something different from the Sub (which is surely the most popular Rolex sports watch) for those who don't like the size of the DSSD.

As a watch company, I think Rolex should offer as many choices as it can.

This. Much prefer the look of the Sub's bezel markers.

The SD fits in between the Sub and DSSD and is functionally different from the Sub wrt its depth rating and HE valve (thickness comes with it).

Totally agree, for me it would've been the perfect watch with a subC bezel.

I would love to try one but would have to sell two watches to make room for it. I am noticing that the price for used is getting lower so I will hopefully get one at some stage.

Love everything about it including the bezel. The fully graduated bezel makes the dial look smaller, which I like having a small wrist. Also it differentiates it from the Sub. The case shape with shorter lugs is perfect. For me Rolex scored a home run with the reintroduction of the Seadweller. The fact it is a bit more exclusive (at least at the moment) is a bonus.

A 'diver' must have the SD bezel markings.

IMO the SD does not sit between the SubDate and the DSSD.

There is the Subdate and the SD.

The DSSD was made by Rolex to demonstrate their engineering expertise and they offered it as an available model.

It doubt that sales of ths DSSD will ever pay for the cost involved in its design, tooling and manufacturing.

Given the comparatively low sales of the DSSD I am surprise that Rolex still make it.

I think it closely echoes the previous generation SDs and has a big appeal to some that don't particularly love the newer maxi cases on the Subs.

Respectfully disagree. The shine of the typical ceramic subs are too blingy. The hashes cut the shine.

I have the 114060, and the ceramic is not "blingy" that is absurd. It looks no different that a brand new submariner with a metal insert. I have had several modern and vintage subs (9 total since 2000), and now this model, which is my all time favorite so far, and it is anything but "blingy," in fact, the insert looks light gray like a vintage faded insert in a lot of lights, and when it looks black, it looks just like a steel insert. That is not an opinion, it is a fact.

Anyone can manipulate a picture, but, wearing the watch out of the showroom is the only way that anyone can tell what it really looks like.

I think its a cool watch. A modern take on a classic model. As for the hash marks, I really don't have an opinion on them either way.
