6265 Advice

I have found a 6265 full set but the dial is damaged ,I think its price reflects this.If we sent it to Rolex for a service and new dial and hands so she was lovely again would it be a crazy thing to do ?

Do I just wait for a better full set to turn up ?

Thank You

IMO the best thing about a 6265 IS the original dial.

I would wait.

Originality is what drives the value on these vintage pieces. The dial is what really determines its value. I would pass and find another 6265 in better shape. It is best to be patient and find the right watch, even if it means paying a premium.

6265 dials do show up occasionally as well, I wouldn't rule it out right away

I just sold a silver service dial for 6265. Not terribly expensive but if you want a big red black dial be prepared to pay over 4K for nice one. If the original dial is trash, case etc. above average & price good I see no problem. If you are a purist or looking for higher values later, as said pass & fine better example. M

My preference would be for an original Big Red, but for the right price a 6265 with a service dial would be pretty sweet too.

Looks like a very decent Big Red to me. Missing/damaged lume plots are very common for these dials. Hands don't look that bad either.

Sorry, I was half joking and I don't expect you to divulge his name. But unless I'm missing something, $28k for that watch along with B&P seems like a very, very good price. More pics if any?

Judging from this one pic alone, I like it! And $28K is not a bad price.

Do you have the first four digits of the serial No? I would expect the price to be in the low to mid thirties, so a little concerned that something is not quite right. If it all checks out, at that price, you could probably invest in a pristine dial - they do come up from time to time...

At 4 times real life size, that dial looks pretty good...I'm at a loss what you would expect to see

To my eyes the dial looks great and could probably be fixed by a proper tech.

Having asked around it would seem if it was repaired if thats even possible it would cause major alarm bells around said watch. Originality is key to retaining value

Of course it's possible. In fact it's inevitable.

You are correct that originality is one of the most important factors that determine the value of a vintage rolex. In the case of this 6265 which you have posted pictures of, my two cents - the dial and hands are in good condition with the loss of a few tritium lume plots and a tad uneven/dirty subdials. This is common on the matte black big red daytona dials especially. For 28k USD and a full set at that, you would be getting a bargain however you dissect what it is exactly that you are getting. A replacement big red dial in equal or better condition is possible but difficult to source and will cost at least 4k USD.

Personally, I would buy this, wear and enjoy.

+1 any day of the week :-) these dials usually always have some tritium dots gone and I am always suspect when all are "perfect" on dials. Rarely happens in real life after servicing by watchmakers. Age alone makes them fall apart.
That is a nice watch and good value imho. m
