Icon7 Refraction

Following on from Jocke's thread here http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=382860

Don't you think it is fascinating how when you plunge your Rolex into water the refraction of the water really distorts you look of your watch face. I also love how the crystal turns into a mirror at certain angles. Anyone who dives or swims with their watches will have probably noticed this, but if you never put your watch in water, make sure your crown is tight run a bowl of water and take a look.

Here are a few photo I took the other day, not stunning photos like Jocke, but you can see what I mean.

Of course I noticed this "mirror" effect before but with other pieces, I just don't swim or shower with watches anymore, not very good to go hot/cold or vice versa for the water resistance...

well, not wearing the watch to swim means you don't have to worry about water resistance, anyway.

Very cool effect. When I clean my watches in the sink, I've noticed the mirror look as well. Kinda cool if you ask me

I've noticed that effect in previous threads where people have posted underwater pics of their watches while diving.

Makes the distance between the crystal and dial look almost double.

Looking at a glass (sapphire) surface at an angle less than the critical angle results in reflection. Refractions is what happens when light passes through a medium and changes direction as it passes. I'm not quite certain but I think this was covered at about grade 9. Nice photos!!!!
