Rolex at the airport
I've heard horror stories, online, of rolex watches getting stolen at the airport. So I end up leaving it at home when I travel and end up wishing I had it later. Do you have to take off your watch at the metal detectors? Do you guys travel with your Roleys?

Before I get to security, I stuff my watch and any other valuables in my carry-on bag. Then put it back on my wrist when I am through.

When going through traditional metal detectors, I stick my watch in my carry on. However, going throug the new generation image scanners, my watch stays on my wrist all the time!

Gold Daytona always goes through the metal detector on my wrist. It has never set if off.
If you go through the millimeter wave scanner I'm sure it would register that you have a watch on. The worst they can do is make you take it off and send it though the xray. |

In more than 20 years of business travel, I was only requested to remove it once, at Frankfurt Airport.

Never take it off... I was removing it once and a TSA agent said watches over $1000 should stay on.

It's not a big deal. Keep it on your wrist. If the TSA says anything, just ask if you can keep it on.

Travelling in the U.S., I've found that the TSA is pretty accommodating when it comes to watches. I've never been asked to take mine off in a U.S. airport. At most, they take a quick look at my wrist and all is good. Canadian airports are a different story though. I find more often than not, they ask that I remove it prior to going through the metal detector. Nowadays, I just put my watch into my carryon bag before going into security.

Had to take my YG yachmaster 2 off today. Set off the detectors twice. Handed it to TSA, walked through, and he handed it back. JPS

I've always taken them off because I don't want my watch to get magnetized.

I did have a friend that had his Doxa stolen while going through security in a US airport. He was asked to take it off, and he put it in one of those baskets that went through the scanner. It caught him by surprise when asked to take it off, and he didn't take the time to put it in a secure place

no problems here. as others have said, if you have to take it off, put it in a pouch and send it through with your other carry on. I'm typically TSA approved so I don't have to take off my watch.

Always put mine in a Casebudi and stow it in my carryon or into a zipped jacket pocket. Why take a chance?
