Bourbon Edification...

Two quick videos I thought some of our membership might get a kick out of.

I've only watched the first video so far, but it was very interesting and informative.

I had no idea that bourbon is made from beer, although it wasn't exactly clear to me if what they are calling beer is the kind of product that we buy at the store, since what they call high and low wine doesn't sound like wine at all.

How the barrel flavors the bourbon was completely new to me in terms of process and the loss of 50% to 100% of the contents of the barrel was surprising as well, though as it was explained, very logical.

I've never been a big bourbon fan, preferring scotch whisky, when I drank hard liquor back in my drinking days.

Great videos, Marc! Watched them just before heading out to dinner.................to a beer joint, unfortunately!

But it sure had me yearning for some fine bourbon. ;-)

Good stuff - I especially like JVWIII's comment after asking, "How many of you have told a friend about our whiskey?"

"You just created your own competition"...too true.

And the perspective on allocation rang true.

One of my high-end source bottle shop owners cursed a bit when I asked to get on his PVW list for future releases.

He told me a story that was interesting.

Somehow he had found out a personal telephone number for Julian - he didn't say if it was a cellphone or a private line to the home - but after calling and getting Julian directly he asked to get on the list because he'd been sending mail and getting no answer.

Julian politely asked his shop's name, assured him he would go onto the list of thousands who he can't possibly satisfy for years to come, and then said "If you ever call this number again, you will never see a bottle in your lifetime."

Pretty funny how mass communication can swamp a company with a looming supply chain overhang.

The Pappy Van Winkle releases came out today in PA for special order.
They sold out in less than 30 min.
I contemplated getting the rye, but for $100 I think I can get some better hooch.
Hopefully any PA members wanting some were able to pick them up.
