Icon12 Need guidance in buying a new watch

Hi all, I'm in need of some assistance!

With Christmas approaching, I've been asked for a few things that I would like. One of the first things I thought of was a new watch!

I'm looking for a casual watch. That's about the main thing I have to go on.

I'm aware there are a lot of options out there, and the cost is pretty varied. As this is something someone else will be buying, I don't want them to have to spend a lot, but would like to be able to suggest something that's pretty decent quality that I can use for several years.

All suggestions are welcome and will be looked in to. Thanks all! :)"

Onega speedmaster moon watch, the original.

It's very moderately priced, great quality, and you have an instant modern classic.

I can recommend GMT Master II 16710 Pepsi, or Coke. Second option is Submariner. Third option is Omega Seamaster 2531.80.00 Blue Bond.

look at lots of pics , have a think about what you want , what you want it to do , what you want to spend ,
look some more .. think lots
then buy a rolex... new or just new to you , bought wisely you wont loose money , or if you do it will be very little ,,, thats the worst that can happen , best ,, wear it for years , maybe make a few bob and trade up.

when i say what you want it to do , if your answer is tell the time ,,, buy an i phone.

If you would give us your budget, that would be beneficial. To some people, $1,000 is a lot of money. To others, $10,000 is nothing at all to drop on a watch.

Peter, welcome to TRF.

I'd put the ball back in your court for a couple of days. Take a stroll through the classifieds - both Rolex and non-Rolex listing threads. Jot down the models you liked visually.

Then come back here and list the ones you have questions about.

If your budget is at all significant, then spend a decent amount of time studying. You'll be amazed how much there is to learn and how much fun it is. Visit Autherized dealers, try on watches. Take up watch spotting and don't be afraid to ask people you meet about their watch, we all like to talk about our watches. Another great treat will be visiting the links you will find here at TRF. Welcome have fun, can't wait to hear what you get.

As others stated, it all depends on the budget. You have found the Rolex forums, so for a moment I will assume you are looking at Rolex watches. I would suggest looking at the Submariner (or Submariner Date), the Explorer, or GMT. I have a Submariner and I've worn it comfortably from anything from a suit/tux to shorts and a t-shirt. Of course there are plenty of others to look at also.

Taking price out of the equation I agree with Seth with the original Speedmaster.

Not hugely expensive, an absolute classic and will be a perfect addition to anyone's collection.

P.S. lucky you!
