Any insight on SS Daytona's
Been to different Ad's and have not seen a SS Daytona on display. Often I've been told AD's receive a very limited amount of SS Daytona's, and are sold to vip customers only or people on the waiting list. Does anyone have knowledge on this topic or insight on how accurate is this.

This is pretty much how it went for me, except that it was the first time that I'd ever set a foot in the store. Not sure about the VIP customer part, but it probably helped that I was considering buying my wife a Datejust Lady 31 that was priced more than the Daytona. In short, I walked into the store looking for hers, and came out w/ his and hers.

They are available and much easier to get then a few years ago. You just need to look around. Some AD's still play the VIP card when asking about the SS Daytona. If that is the case just move on to the next AD. You can find one with a little effort.

I come from the era when I get pretty excited seeing one or knowing that I can get one. That's quite a number of years ago. At that time, the SS Daytona is a chronograph from Rolex that I am more willing to spend on. As my budget for watches grow, I would go straight for the higher models with nicer dials. In my opinion, I find than any other Daytona's be it the TT, RG, WG or Platona is much nicer that the two basic SS models. I have this theory that the SS Stainless Steel is more sought after more because of it is relative more affordable rather than being nicer or better than the higher models. Just my 2 cents.

I think that they are pretty readily available now. If not at an AD, go to a trusted seller here on the forum!

All the above comments are mostly accurate for the USA, but you will find the situation dramatically different in other parts of the world.
With Australia's relatively small population, we have labout a dozen ADs in the whole country. Good luck walking in off the street and walking out with one.

Depends on location and timing. In the past two months, I have seen one one two separate occasasions and they were sold within days of being displayed.

Last July I visited an AD in my location who has eight stores in the region and was told they get 8-10 SS Daytonas per year total. They had none at the time but had several gold versions. He also said that they maintained no waiting list and that it was first come, first served. At least in this location supply is limited, assuming the AD was leveling with me.

A very popular model, but they are obtainable...While this one is not brand new (z serial), this is a stainless Daytona with a factory meteorite dial...I have been wearing it for a few days, and really like it...still wish the Daytona was offered in a slightly larger case!! your thoughts?

Gold Daytonas are easy to find. Two tones are available as well but not overly stocked as they aren't hige sellers. Steel is still tough to find. They aren't readily available. Subs and GMTs are readily available as are explorer 2s. Daytonas and hulks are still more difficult to source from an AD |

I've never seen a SS Daytona in the display case at my AD, but on asking they have one or two in the back. They are too easy to sell.

Very interesting. You must be talking about Tourneau. I saw a pre-owned SS Daytona there for $14,995 a few years ago. That's when they were tough to get. Not anymore. Boy, times have changed.

$12k is a lot of wood for a SS chrono without a date function in my opinion. That's one reason why we're seeing them in the cases these days.
