Out with the old

Its been a couple of months since this happened so it is not really an incoming per se, but I did mix things up a little bit.

AP family consisted of 15400 (white/silver), 15703 (ss) and 15707 (ceramic). I wanted to add a new piece, but I loved everything I had so my initial thought was to just add rather than replace. But at the same time, when the collection gets up to a bakers dozen, it is probably time to start making some "hard" decisions and consolidating a bit.

So, unfortunately, this had to go:

Size: 100.4 KB

I will miss it, loved it, but at the same time I had two divers and I did not want to part with the 15707 or the 15400:

Name: 2014-10-02 15.13.28 copy.jpg
Views: 522
Size: 87.7 KB

Name: 2013-11-06 18.42.42.jpg
Views: 522
Size: 106.9 KB

So, gone but not forgotten. To help fill the void, I decided to add this:

Name: IMG_0206.jpg
Views: 522
Size: 81.8 KB

Name: IMG_0219.jpg
Views: 524
Size: 62.9 KB

Few observations about this piece:

-- this is a big watch! I have about 7.75" wrist and this guy still feels really big, bigger than my PAM 190 for example. The biggest driver of the size difference is not the width but the length. I do not have calipers to measure the delta between the lugs, but suffice it to say it wears much larger than the 42mm diver. The Chrono module obviously makes it quite a bit thicker than the diver.

-- while this is a big watch, I find it very comfortable. I think it wears better than the 15703 as the weight is more spread out. I have even forgotten I had it on a few times and slept with it on! So, while it is a very big watch, it is surprisingly comfortable. I find it more comfortable that the SS Diver, but not as comfortable as the ceramic (which is not terribly surprising).

-- the dial is awesome. It is constantly playing tricks with the eye. It really is more grey/silver, yet appears white in photos. The depth is hard to capture in pictures (at least it is for me anyway) but is mesmerizing. I debated which 44mm to get for quite some time, and while I like FC, since I already had a ceramic diver, it seemed slightly redundant for me. Obviously RG is great, but just not my style... yet. So that led me to the SS pseudo panda dial. Love it, not much more to say.

-- the rubber strap is different than the diver strap, but in a good way. Much more pliable out of the box. Not sure why, but the diver strap is more firm if that makes any sense. I prefer this strap.

-- accuracy is perfect, no issues. I have had some fast APs in the day, this one is perfect so far, no issues.

Love it, love the look, and the added ceramic bezel is a plus. I moved recently and wore this watch for the entire process and it came through it with flying colors!

Congrats!

The dial on the steel 44mm is beautiful, and probably the most interesting of the various models, though I do love the dial on my FC.
Pictures don't capture/convey how the appearance of that silver/light grey/white dial changes with different light angles.

My wrist is smaller than yours, but I also found the 44mm chrono's more comfortable than the 42mm chrono's or divers. It looks to me that the lugs/straps point down at a greater angle relative to the case on the 44mm chrono's than on the 42mm ROO models. For my smaller wrist, that little bit of difference really matters. And agree the weight feels better spread over a larger part of the wrist on the 44mm vs 42mm.

Congrats on your new AP... I must be the only one that doesn't think the 44mm's wear larger.

Congrats. Awesome upgrade for sure.

The watch is VERY big, but I find fits my 6.25 inch wrist fine.

Awesome choice!!!

I love my SS 44mm and the dial is mesmerizing indeed! And besides that you can not beat that sweet, very eye-catching Panda dial.

Enjoy it for many years to come...

Great addition

The diver is a great watch, but easy to part with, I sold mine after a couple of months and have not really missed it.

Love the dial, probably my favorite of my APs. FC is awesome, was really on the fence between the FC and Ceramic and just narrowly chose ceramic. Weight is surprisingly balanced given the size. Fits better than my SS diver no question.

Well, I do not own a 42mm chrono and I suspect that would be closer in size than the diver. This watch feels quite a bit thicker than the diver, which would likely not be the case on the 42mm chronos.

The funny thing is that this move was my wife's idea! I was "wringing" my hands over adding another watch when I have a number I do not wear on a regular basis. She was the one that mentioned about 9 months ago that I should just roll the diver into a SS novelty and keep the ceramic. That way one RO, one Diver and one Novelty. I was so proud I almost shed a tear!

He is a big boy. I will take some more size comparison pics and post later. Only have a 45mm PAM though.

I really liked my SS diver and do miss it, but no pain no gain.

Thanks for posting!

Those 3 APs go really well together.

Interesting to see all those watches next to each other, and the relative appearance and size of the Radiomir and Exp II with the APs.

Thanks for the side by side shots I have the same 44 mm SS novelty and I was considering the exact Diver myself from DavidSW. Since you have had both for a minute, I was wondering which one between the Diver and Novelty are you most drawn to when it comes time to reach for a watch to put on or is it to early to say. I just wanted to hear from someone who currently has both.

Congrats on your new SS 44. Very nice watch. Selling the SS Diver in your case is probably the right decision as you have the Ceramic so it's a duplicate.

The thought to flip my Diver have cross my mind several times, but in the end, I couldn't bare to part with it.

I have to be honest here.....

I am so in love with all of these APs guys. I am normally really into the Rolex side of things but these watches are just gorgeous and I mean over the top gorgeous

This shot of the diver is fantastic

To be honest it is too soon to say. The dial on the 44 is more interesting than the matte dial on the ceramic, but the ceramic case is awesome. AP really figured out how to work with ceramic. Diver is smaller so it fits better with my clothes, but that is easy enough to address by having new shirts made with a larger cuff. So time will tell which one wins out, but I think both can have a place given how different the ceramic looks.

I completely understand. I would not be surprised if the ss diver makes another appearance at some point in the future... It was your pics that got me to buy it in the first place (and my 15400!)

Hate to break it to you, but if you go back and look at all of the pics Ben has posted you are screwed. You will have an incoming before you know it. Man works wonders with that Samsung!
