Rolex Chapter Ring, good or bad?

I think there were probably a discussion about it back then, yet maybe things have changed after some time.

When the Rolex Chapter Ring first came out, I hated it, and thought I will never like it, now after looking at many photos of it, I still hate it.
I think it makes the whole design so messy and it really don't do anything to the watch in functionality-wise.

After Basel 2008, with the new blue bezel and the font of the Deep Sea, I am getting annoyed with all the complicated visual design. I think the chapter ring and YMII started it. I am quite disappointed with Rolex, and there isn't really a nice watch I am looking forward to at this moment. Maybe they can learn from Nike, just retro all their vintage models, I am sure there is a big market for that.

Either you like it or hate it, please share some view. It is open.

When to say when? Enough is enough? ROLEXROLEXROLEX IMO.

I can't imagine this is putting much of a dent into the counterfeit market which would be the only argument for it in my mind. I actually think it is kind of cheesy. I'll admit it's rather subtle in person but it is still superfluous branding and not needed. :

I used to not be a fan and still probably prefer it not to be their but my sub has it and I actually like it. It is not very noticable but when the sunlight hits the flange just right, it looks pretty cool. I do think that the new SDDS is a little over the edge, looks to noticable to me, Rolex ruined a perfect watch IMHO.

I have very mixed emotions on this issue.

On the one hand I completely agree with you and on the other hand sometimes it looks cool.

I definitely agree Rolex should go retro and get rid of the clutter.

I have a pal who refused to buy and LV with the Chapter ring. He finally found one without.

LV with the chapter ring is just not the same, especially it is a 50th anniversary edition for the submariner, and the old submariners don't have the chapter ring.
I would do the same as your friend if I am going to purchase one.

I would have preferred it to be a bit more subtile in my opinion. maybe having your serial number and the crown at the number markers so that it matches up nicely

I'm not too crazy about it.....but since it's there and it's quite subtle, I don't mind it at all. Doesn't worry me.

Hated it when first saw it, said to myself "IT'S SO CHEESY!!!"...and for some reason when I was thinking to get my next rolex was looking for one which has ROLEXROLEX....i don't know why, but somehow started liking it, and now have latest GMTIIC with ROLEXROLEX and I love it...so I guess it is either you hate it or you love it. I guess it's like with anything else new out there, first we hate it and then it turns out to be the best thing....get figure

If you're wearing it, presumably you know who made it and don't need to be reminded.
Those that know don't show............
Another example of a label obsessed culture in general and one (further) small step along the bling route for an iconic marque.

My watches don't have it and I guess I wouldn't really notice the difference if they did. I wouldn't notice the CRB unless the lighting was right or if I went to look for it.

I thinks it's quite subtle for the recent releases to have the RRR on the rehaut but the SDDS having all that blurb on its chapter ring is too blindingly crass given that it is in the same plane as the dial.

I prefer the classic's with the plain rehaut such as on the SD

Not for me. I prefer the unadulterated clean lines of my Sub's rehaut. It's surely been added for two reasons, brand identification and as an anti-counterfeiting measure. I like the idea of having the serial number on the rehaut at 6 o'clock but not the repeated Rolex.

Anyone seen any fakes with an RBR?

Hi
I like the idea of being able to see the serial number without taking the bracelet off.
Plus in normal use I dont think you will really notice it.
Regards Mike.

hardly noticeable, classy, and good authentication measure for rolex, difficult to duplicate for counterfeiters.
i like the engraved rehaut rolex branding(is that what we decided to call it?)
best,dan

I'm not the biggest fan of a scripted rehault, but no much I can do about it.

I don't need constant reminders on the rehaut that I am wearing a Rolex watch. Only advantage I see the the RBR is the serial number at six. If Rolex had only just engraved the serial number at six and not TEN times ROLEX plus the coronet, it would have been a great improvement.

I don't know anything about the "chapter ring," but if you are discussing the engraged rehaut, I am ambivalent. I like seeing it on Bluesy, but like its absence on Expy2

I am OK with it. I love its absence on the SD, but like it on the GMT. Guess I am biased with my watches.
