Cyclops Date Display Problem

Several years ago I bought a bag of "fake" watches at a county auction. One of the watches was later determined, by a reputable Rolex dealer/repairshop, to be a genuine Oyster Perpetual (Serial No. X154661). There's a problem with this watch, the date display in the cyclops doesn't advance every day. Is this a typical problem with Rolex's? Is it an expensive repair? The afore-mentioned dealer that inspected the watch and gave me the serial number saw the problem and fixed it no charge but the problem soon returned. If you've experienced this problem I'd appreciate knowing what you did.

Post a pic and we will tell you if it's real. Also, by now I'm sure it needs service and probably some new parts if anything is significantly worn.

Re: Cyclops Date Display Problem

Thanks for the reply and your interest.
I've uploaded a photo attachment (I hope...haven't done this before).
The dealer told us that the bezel is not the original bezel. The diamonds are real diamonds. Bill

I just had my Rolex 1675 GMT serviced.
Although I had not had a problem with the date positioning before, after the movement had been cleaned and assembled, the watchmaker advised me that the date was moving further than it should, very similar to what your photo shows.
He attempted to increase the date jumper spring slightly, so the date wheel would stop at the correct point, but the spring broke! I'm guessing after 47 years, it was getting a bit tired!
He installed a new 'date jumper' and it fixed the problem.
You indicated your 'find' is authentic, a cleaning and perhaps one new part should get your Rolex working correctly again.

Merry Christmas to all Rolex Forum members and their families.

The repair would be a small portion of the overall service the watch needs anyway.

Figure $400 to $600 for an indie watchmaker fee or $800ish for Rolex Service Center. May not need a new part - but if so maybe an extra $50-100.

Don't try to just repair the date issue. Service it.

My Seadweller's 16660 date was taking until 02:30 to advance the date. Dalton serviced the watch for me. He also found a few other problems. It now turns over at 12:00

Sounds like my Rolex needs to be serviced and "date jumper" fixed.
Thanks for the advice!

Fyi...Rolex service centers will remove any non-Rolex parts and charge you to replace them with the correct parts. If you decide to send it to RSC expect to lose the bezel. Try an certified independent specialists to avoid that.

Seriously?
Even if you instruct them NOT to replace the bezel?

If it isn't factory yes. You can instruct them not too, but they will refuse to service it.

Rolex is very strict on non oem parts, as they should.
