Datejust dial swap
Hi fellas,
I have a vintage 16013 datejust with the 3035 movement. I just fell in love with a current 116233 datejust dial. Since my watch is still running in COSC and minty shape, it is not logical to pay over 7-8k for a very similar watch. I am planning to change the dial of my 16013 to a new style one. Found it on eBay already in good condition. I am pretty sure i had heard before that 3035 and new 3135 movements have the same dial feet and date window positions so the dials should be interchangeable. Can anyone please confirm that 116223 dail/hands set will fit on my 16013 running 3035 movement? PS: Had already changed the plexi to a sapphire crystal too |

I don't know the answer, but .... why do it? Those old Plexi DJs are so cool. And some of the old dials are beautiful, too. Gray, silver, blue, linen. You could swap out a correct dial and still have the feel of a vintage Rolex. Otherwise you're going to end up with a hybrid watch. If you really don't like the vintage feel of the old DJs, why not just sell it and get a brand new DJ?

Your better off finding one that will fit the 16013. There are many many to choose from. For around 500 dollars you can basically get anything you want.

New dial won't fit.
Totally different watch. It's all in the details. If you're persistent you'll find a good deal. Don't butcher your 16013. |

Well i just loved the look of that blue dial with lume inside the baton markers!
My dj is silver dial and i was thinking about buying a blue dial too. And why not buy this new dial than? My watchsmith told me that it was possible since the movements have the same dial feet position and height. But now i am confused :( |

My impression is that the new generation dials won't fit the older cases.
Maybe I'm wrong... |

The dial will fit and go for it. The vast majority of vintage Datejusts aren't collectible at all so one of the fun things about them is changing out dials and bezels etc. It's a relatively inexpensive way to breathe life into a tired looking watch.

The current Datejust model has a 3135 caliber movement. The 3135 dials fit 3035 calibers as well so technically it should fit. Never seen this done before but I'm sure its been done!

There are plenty of older blue dials that will fit your DJ. Spend some time looking around and you'll likely find one.
