Daytona YG vs. GMTii YG
Im 32 years young, own a blue collar business so I willot be wearing this to work, just play. I want something that I can wear in shower if I forget or a dip in the pool.
I purchased a Daytona YG with black subdials last week. It had been the watch I was thinking about for a while. Once I got it home it didn't write have the wrist presence i was hopping for. Furthermore, i googled daytona wrist shots and I got a tonne of women wearing them. This really seems to bother me. I always thou8ght of Daytona as very manly. WTF? Im thinking of exchanging for a YG GMT ii withe Green dial. What I am afraid of is will I miss the Daytona? Is it a downgrade? This is my first gold rolex I want to be 100%. I know the GMT, especially in this color combo is more unlikely to be worn by women and I like the look alot. I also would be pissed off if they messed with the Daytona in the near future, I'm reading rumors of a 42mm case? What do forum members think if given a choice between the two watches as a watch to be worn to dinners and going out? Thanks toy Rolex74 might as well add YG gold/ Blue Submariner to the choices. Sharp watch! |

The YG Daytona is nice, but for me personally I am not a big Daytona fan, I always wanted one but they seem small to me. I would have gone with the YG GMT or this beauty....YG Blue Sub

I would go with the gmt II. Don't worry about the general consensus if you aren't 100% into an investment like that it's time for a change. Not to mention the gmt is a stunning piece. Good luck, post pics.

I personally like the YG GMT. I think it appears larger because the dial is not as cluttered (bad choice of words). If I were only to have one sport watch, it would be the YG Sub or YG GMT. I love the Daytona for its history and its functionality. For me, it looks best in SS or platinum.

I'm a huge GMT fan so I would go with the YG GMT but with the black face as the green just doesn't sing to me. I also don't agree with the YG Daytona being majority woman. I know a few guys personally with them and they certainly are beautiful and one of the most iconic Rolex models. I do see more woman in Rose gold Daytonas then YG.

I made the same flip as you are considering, except I went for the black dial YG GMT. I didn't regret it at all. However, I find myself being drawn back in to the YG Daytona. Except this time I am eying the 116518 on a strap. I think the Daytona looks amazing on leather.

YG GMT IIC with the green dial was my grail watch for a very long time. I have now set my sights on a rose gold Daytona with the chocolate dial. I LOVE the Daytona. Yes, I have seen many women wearing Daytonas lately, especially in South Florida. They seem to like the one that i want also, the rose gold Daytona on a bracelet. As a mater of fact, my wife has kidnapped my YG Daytona on the strap, and wears it all the time., which is great for me because now Ihave an "excuse" to buy myself the RG Daytona! lol! Frankly, I think it is up to the wearer of the watch to determine the wrist presence. I think (I know) I can rock the rose gold Daytona just fine, regardless of the fact that now women are trending men's watches. At the end of the day, you need to go with what works for YOU and what will make you happy with what you have on your wrist. Both watches you mentioned are excellent pieces, and you cannot go wrong with either. My vote is for the Daytona tho. However, if I were to go for the GMT IIC, it would be the one with the green dial. Good luck!!!

Does anyone know if the Daytonas will be changed to 42mm or is this speculation? Will they do a Daytona ii? Thats part of the reason I would consider not keeping the current one.

If you're concerned about women wearing your watch of choice, then there're a few ways to deal with that:
1) Get the YG GMT IIC. I've never seen any ladies wearing that model. 2) Get a Platona. Except for Ellen, I don't think many women will wear one, especially these days when YG, RG and PG (pink gold) are "in". 3) Get a 42mm or 44mm Royal Oak Offshore. It could even have a forged carbon or ceramic case. I don't see any women wanting to wear such a watch. 4) Get a Bremont MBII or U2. Bremont makes one of the most focused and masculine time pieces out there. Well, apart from IWC which could be option #5 :) I'd personally go for option #2.

GMT all the way. It was interested to read your experience with the YG Daytona. Coincidently I was considering flipping a couple of my pieces to pick one just like the one you have, but with the strap. Based on what you said, I may have to reconsider.

Had the YG sub, GMT, and Daytona
Bottom line is they all look great on the wrist all command huge wrist presence and really just a matter of personal preference RG Daytona works too! Ended up having this replace them all...... |

Great shot
So your planning on adding a gmtII YG too? You already have a sub YG, u don't think they're gonna be too similar that also in the same metal? Both great watches though.. I'm gonna go for one of them in YG myself as soon as I can put some cash on the side & think of a way that my wife won't kill me for getting another Rolex |

You have the best YG Daytona it is my favorite. I do love the green dial GMT but I probably wouldn't do the flip. I may do it for a blue dial YG Sub though...

For mine this is the best looking Rolex PERIOD. If that is what you have bought, I cant understand why you are not drooling all over it, yes the YG GMT is a cracker but I would not swap that Daytona combination for it ever (You should be over the moon). If it was a WG Daytona then yes I would consider swapping as I prefer YG but that is the best dial colour YG you can get, harks back to the Newman dial and the history as well as looking amazing.
