Trade a SkyDweller for Patek 5726 White Dial?
Let's assume the numbers are all in line, which they are. I don't necessarily want to pay cash for this watch but I'm being offered it and if I do it it's going to be in trade toward something I own.
Pros: 1. The White dial is close to my Wife's 7018 so we'll nearly have matching Nautiluses. (Hers is a little more silvery and doesn't have an AC or moonphase) 2. I like the white dial, A LOT. 3. It's another Patek. Cons: 1. Give up my Rose Gold SkyDweller for it? This is a very heavy watch that doesn't get as much use as my RG Daytona. But it's also precious metal as opposed to the 5726 stainless steel. Also has an annual calendar which for a Rolex is a big deal. 2. I already own a 5726, Black Dial with Tiffany stamp on strap that I CANNOT let go of. Is it crazy to own two identical models just with different dials and strap/bracelet combos? |

Keep the sky dweller. It's a Rolex AC, a bit of diversity in the collection, and you already own a 5726 Tiffany.

As good as the white 5726 is I wouldn't do it as you already have a 5726 albeit on strap. I do have to say you'r getting full value for your SKD assuming the 5726 is new or a few months old as I see them trading in the high 30's. In my opinion the 5726 would be easier to move if you so wish. By doing this trade you'd be saving the initial hit you take on Rolex precious models. Have I confused you enough. 🍻😅

Why not....one is almost like a LE (special occasions) and the other is a daily wear watch. I see nothing wrong with it. I like the exact same model, and agree that the white dial on the 5726 work very well together on the bracelet.

I am not a fan of the SkyDweller so generally would always say yes, but it is similar to your other watch.

I wouldn't trade for the 5726, purely because you have one already (albeit on strap). I would trade for something else.

Sell the SkyDweller, get a 5711 and save the rest for your next purchase.

I agree but acknowledge I am still in the 'honeymoon phase' for at least another day or so.

Not a fan of the SkyD and LOVE the 5726 white dial. That said, it's a bit redundant to the 5726 you have, and you say you cannot part with. I'd say maybe a Nautilus Chrono would be more tempting. The 5980 w/ the white dial is awesome or blue is even better!

I'd trade it for the 5990, plus a little cash.

How about the TT 5980 AR instead? Would like to see more of those.

What about a 5980/1A white dial? Would be a change and you wouldn't be duplicating a watch you already have. Just a thought.

If you didn't have a 5726 I would say yes, but you have one, so NO….

Ps: NO WAY, and I don't like the SD in fact, but having 2 5726, which I love by the way, my favorite Naut with the 5712, would IMO be crazy….

I would keep the SkyDweller. That's one of the best watches offered by Rolex in my opinion.

I liked the idea. I had the 5726a on a strap and bought the white dial on a bracelet. They are VERY different watches. That being said I had to sell my 5726a for a Rolex that I really wanted and didn't want to outlay the cash. I don't regret that trade at all. The only reason I would say to do it is that you already have a RG Daytona so that bucket is filled and the SD is just not as nice an AC as the 5726 1/a polar. I would rather have the PP in this match up. Good luck!

I truly appreciate all the insight. I've decided to keep the SkyDweller for now. I might do it as a partial trade toward a 5980r if I can find one on a short strap. And I like the idea on the 5990. I actually have one on order with my local AD but I keep getting offered them from other dealers, mostly with asian papers. Nothing wrong with that, but if I'm paying the same value I'm waiting for the one from my AD. I didn't like the 5990 when it was first announced and now I love it. I got the rose gold bug for awhile but honestly my heart is with Patek, so I know I'll eventually trade out of every Rolex I have for something Patek.
They say many Patek owners come full circle back to Rolex, but there's a certain level of emotion I cannot explain when I strap on one of my Patek's that I don't feel with any Rolex I've ever acquired. I still remember the feeling when I bought my first Rolex because I didn't know there was any better, but now that Patek is in my arsenal it's so hard to want to wear anything else. Thanks partially to Ken for this addiction! His pictures have inspired me and lightened my wallet quite a bit. Happy New Year to all. I wish you nothing but success, health and happiness!! |

I believe you made the correct decision. Can you please explain in more detail
