End of the Hulk?

Not sure if this had been posted before but I was having a conversation with the manager of a Rolex Boutique a couple of months ago and he told me that they had a directive from Rolex to stop displaying the 116610LV's and hold them in the safe and to get them out on request only. He said this is usually the case when a model is to be discontinued and told me production of this model would stop in 2015 after just 5 years.

I have no idea if this is true so please don't shoot the messenger. I do know it wasn't a sales trick though as I was wearing my Hulk at the time, which prompted the discussion.

I haven't personally been to or past another AD since to know if there are any on display or not.

I am guessing the consensus will be that this is BS?

Interesting, and no doubt some responses will also be interesting. My understanding is that boutiques have a more direct relationship with Rolex than ADs.
I'm pretty sure that I've seen LVs in (UK AD) window displays recently though.

Long shot, but is there any chance that the boutique manager could show you the directive? Even better, scan it and post it here!

Did he have a 116610LV in the safe just for you?

I've seen about 3 or 4 AD over the last month with them in the window. I hope it's not true though since I'm still hoping to get mine in a few months!

I hope they do but I'd take it with a grain of salt until there was confirmation from Rolex headquarters and not an AD or Boutique. Even though there's thousands and thousands of them out there, I like the idea and love the watch.

Sound like a sales tactic to me...

Grab it now while you still can!

They did the same thing with the SS daytona.

They won't discontinue. They are creating exclusivity.

I'm sure the 116610LV would say:

"The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"

Why discontinue a great seller? And a great looker!

It does sound like the 'steel Daytona in the safe' scenario.
Although in the last few years I've seen these in AD window displays.

Seems like there are still a lot about then so probably untrue.

This seems the most likely scenario!

Well, I had a similar experience at a number of dealers and one boutique in Florida. They've all suggested that it's on its way out. It was never intended to be in production for as long as it has, and that had been due to its enduring popularity.

That being said, I know for a fact that the dealers in question can no longer get them in stock or order them. There is simply no supply.

My local dealer has one and is able to get them. My buddy just bought one there about 2 weeks ago. It's just like the price increase threads, nothing but rumors and speculation.

I will say that I have yet to see a stainless steel Daytona in an AD case, but I have never gone to an AD and not seen a hulk.

I was in Tourneau last week window shopping and trying to make some final decisions on a new purchase. The Hulk was there and available to try on easily. However, generally speaking the rolex shelves were pretty cleared out. The woman told me Rolex has not sent them new watches for an unusually extended period.

She told me Rolex will often limit distribution right before they are about to increase prices.

Have not heard that one before. In my area, I have not seen one on display for almost a year now. According to my AD, they are still very hard to come by and when they get one, it is always spoken for, similar to the BLNR.

In all honesty, it would not make sense for Rolex to discontinue this piece as I believe it is still a very popular watch.

My question is have any boutiques or AD's ever been correct in these "you didn't hear it from me, but...." statements? I think that would be an interesting thread.

Dunno how true this is, but I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe they're replacing this with a Plat Sub?

I was watching a video in which Eric Ku stated the Hulk will be collectible b/c it will be discontinued. And the "Kermit" was only produced for 7 years.

I still doubt it will be discontinued.

Why would you hide something that you wanted flushed out of inventory? Makes no sense.
