One watch=one pair of shoes
Greggz wrote a nice post today about having worn a Rolex Datejust TT Jubilee daily for the past twenty years and being perfectly content. His post made me realize something that I'm sure most/many of you already know, but never crossed my mind.
I see wearing the same watch everyday akin to wearing the same pair of shoes everyday. I can't imagine doing it. Funny, but I just never thought about it until now. This has nothing to do with having a well rounded collection or not. I can just as easily reach for an old Seiko or Casio as any Rolex, et al. It is a "feel" thing and generally not any kind of fashion decision. Just one watch=wouldn't be easy. And with that my friends, Cheers. |

So, does this mean you like to match your watch with your shoes?

I just remembered that I used to have about 25 pairs of sneakers as a kid.

I could easily sell all my Rolex watches except for the first one I bought, the 16550 Exp II, to me it is the perfect watch and only one I need.
Can't do everything with one pair of shoes.

A guy I used to work with wore the same set of RM Williams boots to work each day.
Now he had no interest whatever in clothes or fashion or impressing anyone, and on that basis it made such good sense. He just got up in the morning and he knew what footwear he was going to be wearing. I had a lot of respect for this guy, and the thought always stayed with me. A decade later I bought a pair of black and a pair of brown RMs and simply alternated them daily to match either brown or black based clothing. Nice and simple. The only hiccup was getting to work one day and finding I had one black and one brown boot. Was a fun talking point for the rest of the day.

Shoes are not 10 and 20k.... The watches I like are, so my 7 pairs of shoes will have to suffer through

And then there's the utilitarian approach: 1 watch and 1 pair of shoes = 2 less decisions to make every day.
