Friday's Silly Question - Grail Watch
I've seen the term 'Grail' several times on here when referring to various pieces. My question: is a 'Grail' watch a subjective i.e. personal thing, as in the watch I've always wanted? Or is a 'Grail' THE watch (or watches) that every Rolexisti should own at least once in their life?

Option 1.
A grail watch is one that would be the "pinnacle" of your collection. As Mike said, everyone has their own.

Mine would be a PP Aquanaut GMT... Not impossible, but would be an idiotic financial decision at my income. Unless I had a selloff to supplement and that's not happening. At this point, it's just a dream.

For me it is just a watch I wanted. Usually a piece that requires some searching and maybe some saving. It is different for everyone.

Mine is Zenith Minute Repater but I would never trade or sell my Rolex watches for anything
In Rolex model line up my grail is yellow gold bracelet SKY DWELLER, if they make a two tone, I too shall be satisfied with that

To me, the term grail watch is the one watch that you have longed for and strive to obtain. My grail watch is the Day-Date 118238 with a white roman dial in the President bracelet.

Both statements are subjective--and personal. What I think every Rolex owner should have in their collection is probably different than other owners...

This... it's whatever you want it to be. Mine keeps changing! Nothing super high end but swings between a NOS older SD or a Yachtmaster with either platinum or blue dial. But if I'd win the lottery my "grail" would move in a different direction.

Many 'Grail' Rolex models are desired by many others here on the forum. For me there are two categories of grail pieces: achievable and unachievable. Then end all 'Grail' piece for me is the Patek 5970....unachievable that is! I just like to enjoy Ken's by picture. My achievable are the Rolex Platinum models mainly the Platona which Dr. Tom has and posts pictures that I also get to enjoy.

However there is the holy trinity in watches (AP, Patek, and Vacheron) that are recognized as being the pinnacle watch producers in the world.

This is how I see it as well. I'll be extremely satisfied when my 3 watch collection includes my current Sub, an AP 15400 (leaning white), and a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. All obtainable in the somewhat distant future without having to live on the streets.

For me
Grail is the one you desire that is just out of reach yet there is a thread of possibility... Most important, once achieved, it immediately has to be replaced or else we would be burdened with the impossible feeling of contentment. |

I lust after the TT Sub blue because it's achingly beautiful and I wouldn't want anything more expensive than that on my wrist.

I'm finding myself no longer enamored with the "Holy Trinity." I'm not hating by no means, but for me, a Paul Newman 6263 is my Grail!
