Have you ever wondered...
what the annual "mileage" of the tip of the second hand on your watch is?
I have and concluded that it is roughly 2460 miles: 0.04 * 3.14 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 365 / 1,610 = 2460 (diamter of the watch dial (in meters) * pi * seconds per minute * minutes per hour * hours per day * days per year) / (meters in a mile) That's the equivalent of going around the earth every ten years! Very nice!! Thanks!!!
Edit: This is only for sweep second models. Second hands on Daytona and YMII will travel less :-) |

Never thought of it, but your 40mm is off a little. ;-). Second hand is smaller. Cool to think about 2k miles.

Shouldn't that first one be circumference not diameter?

circumference = 2*pi*r = d*pi = ~40mm *pi

I think you have one to many *60's in there.
The second hand makes one revolution per min, 60 revolutions per hour. so if I'm thinking correctly (and I may not be lol) 0.04 * 3.14 * 60 * 24 * 365 / 1,610 = 41 |
