DSSD First Impressions
This weekend I stopped by a local AD to take a look at the new Deep Sea D-Blue, but unfortunately they didn't have one in stock. Since I was already there, I figured I'd try a DSSD on for size as I've heard about how large they were. I got that bad boy on my thick 8" wrist and I was actually surprised at how it wore.
To be sure, it's a hefty watch and it's thick, but it's not as big, heavy or wide as the 45mm Omega Planet Oceans. In fact, the DSSD seemed smaller than I expected and I have to admit that it feels light for it's size... it simply wore much better than I anticipated. Of course, it didn't look out of place on my cave-man wrist and my wife thought it looked awesome (that's always a huge plus). And although I'm a fan of the cyclops, it didn't bother me without it. I believe the extra copy underneath the bezel makes up for any loss with the cyclops in regards to what's going on with the dial. I always thought this watch would just be too big, chunky, and uncomfortable to wear, but I have to admit that my opinion is changing. What I don't like about some of the larger watch heads is how many of them move up and down ones wrist because of their weight and size. I prefer a watch that stays comfortably on the wrist. I have to admit I love the 43-44mm size. My 16613 Sub looks like a dress watch on my wrist, which for all practical reasons it really is, but the DSSD looks "boss" on my arm. I'm just not sure about the size yet... To those in the DSSD club, what says you? Is this a comfortable daily wear? Or is it merely a chunky statement watch that works in your rotation? Here are the obligatory TRF pics! |

I purchased a DSSD back in November and I already owned the Omega you mention above. My wrist is slightly smaller than yours and I haven't found the DSSD to be large at all. The Omega is lighter to wear however I still find the DSSD to be a very comfortable everyday watch. I have only worn the Omega one time since November and now it lives on the winder. The Omega was a gift from my wife so I should probably wear it more , but I just can't bring myself to put the other one down. I say go for it.

It's a big watch! I have to say I prefer that YMII in the background of the picture.

So what did you do? I do not have an 8" wrist and it wears fine on me. Not too heavy. The height can be an issue sometimes if I have the wrong French cuff dress shirt.

I tried it on a while back and while I understand it's an engineering marvel, I just laughed a little as soon as I saw it on my 7.25 inch wrist. Even the woman who showed it to me acknowledged that it was ridiculous.
The height is the issue. People complain about watches that are too thick. Well, this is like strapping a hockey puck to your wrist. Plus the taper of the bracelet is a decision that I just don't understand. It's simply a poor design choice. I do really like the new dial though.

Sold my 45mm Planet Ocean 9300 chrono after purchasing the DSSD as I just didn't wear it, it wore a lot larger than the DSSD!
The DSSD is just an awesome piece! |

I just laid one away with my tax refund at my local AD. I can't wait to strap this watch on in a couple of months! Looks awesome. |

Looks great on you! No reason that it can't be a daily wearer. As comfortable as you thought it was trying it on, it's even more impressive once properly sized.

I don't have one, so I can't weigh in on the comfort/daily wear issue...but man, it looks great on you. Go on, go for it!

I love only the big divers
I had long ago Rolex SD 16600 - Omega Ploprof - Blancpain Fifty fathoms - some Panerai Luminor but DEEPSEA is undoubtedly the best, the most and comfortable prestigious |

If you go in thinking it's going to be too big or anything negative then if it's not that bad you get a pleasant surprise that can be quite thrilling, same happened to me with the Blue YM. Similarly the other way of high hopes can lead to being underwhelmed.
When I first got the DSSD I had 44mm Breitlings and APs so it didn't feel wrong on my wrist tho not as well balanced as the others, but as time has passed I now prefer 40-42mm watches, and the subc which felt once on the small side for me now feels and wears perfectly. |

I have an 8 inch wrist and my DSSD wears just fine - every day. Wore it 72 hrs straight a week or so ago and forgot I was wearing it. Size the bracelet properly and then use the glidelock to fine tune the fit.
It's the best watch I've ever owned. It makes me smile everyday. |

I only have a 7" inch wrist, and it wears great as a daily. I have rather flat wrists, so I've still got wrist protruding from each set of lugs, which is a must for me before buying a larger watch. After hearing how large the DSSD was, I expected larger as well.
