Tudor Pelagos Vs.....

Hey there lads, long time lurker first time poster. Im asking for your help today as I've recently sold an old VW beetle i had hanging around my house in South America and have now come into a substantial, but not too substantial amount of spending cash. Anyhow, as you gentlemen are most knowledgeable in these matters I've come to a sort of dilemma. As of late both the Tudor Pelagos, and Omega Seamaster Pro300m Ceramic are in the same price bracket more or less 3000$ for a brand new unit. My question is, which one would you choose? Consider which one would make a better first (great) watch, also which one is most likely to appreciate in value, become a collectible in the future. look forward to this comparison as it makes sense to me and haven't seen it on the forum before.

Tudor Pelagos:
500m water resistance
helium escape valve
Expandable clasp system
Made by Rolex but not a rolex
Eta modified movement
Titanium
Extensive lume on dial and bezel (ceramic bezel)
42mm case diameter

Seamaster 300mpc:
300m water resistance

Good lume on dial (also on bezel pearl) not nearly as much as the Pelagos :(

I don't think that the Omega will make it to very many collectors lists in the future, nor will it retain the value the Tudor will.

Plus it's kind of ugly, as are all of Omegas skeleton hands models.. Bring back the swords !!!!!!!!!

I know a Rolex Sub isn't in your list but the Tudor is darn close and I'd go that way. I just recently upgraded to a Sub from an Omega SMP 300 (model before the one you're considering) and although I liked the watch a lot i just kept thinking "it's not a rolex". In that vain, I'd vote for the Pelagos over the SMP.

Personally, I really liked the Pelagos when I tried it on, more than I thought I would. However, I love the SMP, great bracelet, super comfortable, it has screws between links and not pins and I love, love, love blue dial watches. It also sits lower and closer on the wrist.

About the skeleton hands they are for function, so you can se the date when the hand is over it. I don't have a ceramic but have two more classics versions and love them both.

The modern SMP is really rugged, well put together watch.

Both fantastic references. In the end, I would choose the Omega 300M over the Tudor Pelagos. To me, the 300M is much more asthetically appealing. Love the blue.

I believe that the Omega 2500d movement is a modified ETA as well, and not an in-house movement.

I couldn't agree more. The swordhands + wave pattern dial is classic though.

Omega SMP is a marginally decent watch..P O is better.

That's a tough one...I had the forerunner to the Omega pictured and it was a great watch...tough, good looking, very comfortable...I find asking why I ever flipped it...

That said, the Pelagos is one of my faves from the recent Tudor releases...I could definitely see one making its way into my collection.

So, heck, I'm really of no help here. If a gun was to my head, I'd probably give the nod to the Tudor.

I have had both. Ended up selling the Pelagos and keeping the SMPc so you know what my vote is for.

I know it isn't on your list, but for marginally more money.....I would buy a pre-owned Rolex 16570 Exp II. Better value retention long term, and GMT complication to boot.

for an everyday casual watch, I would go tudor. if it needs to be worn with suits, then the SMP may work better as it's thinner and more polished. both have ETA based movements. the pelagos resale value is higher at the moment, but who knows in 5 years.

Pelagos. Better looking. Matte dial and bezel is superb. It also has one of the best bracelet clasps ever. I may be skewed...I own one. LOL.

SMP gets my vote... I'm not impressed with Tudor compared to the quality of the Omega in the flesh. Based on your statement "made by Rolex but not a Rolex", you make it sound like your perception of Tudor is "almost a Rolex". I wouldn't get something that's almost something. If price is what's holding you back from Rolex then I'd suggest getting pre-owned here on TRF, I'm sure you can get a 14060 for a little bit over your budget.

I would not get the Pelagos, but I don't know that I would take the SMPc either. The Pelagos is one that I really liked the first time I saw it online, and then I tried it on and honestly it was just boring. I'd take a red Black Bay over a Pelagos any day, and it doesn't hurt that they're cheaper too. I do like that SMPc, but I think there are a few other watches I'd go after before I considered one of those.

I would personally go the SMP, but as above get the older one with the wave dial. It is simply a stunning dial that is subtly don. I know I constaantly find myself staring at it.

The thing with Tudors is that I know I would love it but after a while get irritated it's not a Rolex. I have been very close to buying a red dial black bay as it is a stunning watch but know this fact will rear its head
