Quality control

I managed to track down a Hulk at an AD in the UK. As I have posted before I am looking at a Hulk, DSSD (Deep sea) or Blusey as my next acquisition. I get to the store and the AD has to retrieve the watch from the safe as they have just come in and not even made it to the window. The watch in its coffin comes up we take it out, put it on my wrist and I think that it is lovely except for the dust on the glass, which I try and wipe off, however it does not come off and on closer inspection its not on the glass, its actually under the glass on the dial. Its not small either, very noticeable, AD said she has never seen that before and I was surprised it made it out of quality control at Rolex.

Anyone seen that before?

That's bloody shocking! I was in central London Monday, and hardly any of the ADs I went in had the hulk, only one had it,and that one had just come in that morning.

I've had this happen twice. Once with an Explorer 214270 and once with a Breitling Navitimer. I noticed it after purchasing and returned the watch both times.

I haven't seen this before. Interesting that this could happen considering the high level of cleanliness and quality control that Rolex puts into making every watch.

Should be an easy fix, but where humans are involved, error is possible.

Not something I would take for granted.

It's rare in a new one, but within the error rate of QC via human inspection. Maybe something a robot could do better? I mean the visual inspections...

My sub had a spec of dust in it when I bought it. Took it to Rolex in London and they resolved it while I waited.

Every Rolex I was keen on purchasing, and inspected in detail, had a quality issue.
Had to lower my standards, otherwise I'd never get to enjoy them!

Dust/stain on dial, misaligned dial to rehault, scratched hands, oversprayed hands (common on the EXP and GMT), etc.

yeah if I saw any of these things I wouldn't buy or ask for a different one. I bet Rolex is pretty good about fixing these issues after you buy though.

This. Funny as it sounds, I wear a hairnet when working on any watches.

How was the cyclops magnification? Hulks and BLNRs seem to have a high proportion of the non-magnifying cyclops lately.

I had a tiny speck found on the inner side of the glass of my SDC and was immediately taken aback. Something I believe its a huge slip for the QC of the brand..I had to walk out and ponder for a while, consulted a dear friend on this and was told he had the same happened to him, though he had that fixed due to his OCD. He assured me its nothing major and not compromising on its performance.

I went back and purchased the watch after further thoughts, settling within if I could live with that speck. Well its a slip and I accepted it.

My pal told me I could bring it back to RSC to have it removed but having the case opened by more humans might just open the dear watch to more errors, which I rather not.

That speck is still obvious to me but I love my sdc for sure!

Well when any manufacturer makes around 900000 units a year there will be a tiny amount with things like a spec of fluff under crystal but a very easy fix.

I recall talking to a Bexley Rolex tech some years ago who said in lab testing of Rolex watches under different atmospheric pressures proved that it was easier to keep water out of a watch than fine dust.
Just wonder were this watch has been?
