Rolex Comex

Hi there,
I was recently offered this Comex. I collect vintage watches but I'm not a Rolex expert. This one comes with a quite hefty price... any comment to help me decide. What would you price it?

Comex and reasonable price are almost impossible to find in the same sentence for real pieces

"This one comes with a quite hefty price"
I am a beginner in this game but I would pass.

For my own and other's education I offer my observations.
Please correct me if I am wrong - I would love to learn more.

Caseback:
No month / year stamp
The number stamped in looke like all the fake ones I have seen. But does some Comex casebacks have a number stamped in?

Dial is ruined - and from the other dials I can find it seems wrong;
- comex logo type is wrong (for this dial)
- ft is wrong

Hands and dial does not match.

Thanks,

Klaus

Here's one, no idea if it's genuine or not but are they really making this sort of money.

Hi,

Ok... Let me understand.
Or and please explain me in detail...
Is this comex ok or not?
If not why?
Is the movement ok? Is the case ok? Is the bazel ok?
Is the dial ok?
Caseback?

Are the separate parts rolex parts or not? Is it just a redial?

Please give me some more details...

Many thanks for helping.

There will be some reluctance to post specific details because it aids people who make fakes improve their "craft."

From the picture it seems its like the movement is stamped "1570" but it's a bit blurry. Can the OP confirm?

There is no "general rule of thumb" to identify a fake Comex.

I know that the 198 often comes up with fakes and if I would be ever in the position to buy one, I'd make sure to contact Marcello, Mike Wood and Jedly for their opinion BEFORE I proceed with the deal.

And as Jedly who knows more about Comex than any of us ever will already responded it is a fake....Enough said to the OP so time to move on.

Not speaking to you MP or Mike W.

OP it's a watch made to fool people out of money. It is not a genuine Comex.

We won't go into detail about what is wrong, better to look elswhere for a Comex.

To the OP, check this: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=382518

Search for a Rolex Comex 5513 and check the movement. It should be 1520 or 1530. Not 1570. Please correct me if I am wrong.

In your search for your first vintage I suggest you aim lower and skip the idea of making a killing deal for a rare model. There is a 80% chance of getting scammed.

If you search a bit you can even find sites where they build replica vintage watches. Sometimes with some original parts.
At some point these watches will hit the market and watch lovers like you and me will be cheated if we are not 100% sure what we are doing.

This leaves us with trusted dealers and the cheaper vintage options while we learn. 10 K$ will get you a long way with a 100% genuine Rolex vintage from a trusted dealer.

Aim for a model you like and start building your knowledge around that specific model.
I suggest you go for that.

Hope that helps,

klaus

Especially in regards to the few "grail" types that exist.
Op, understand that very few people own a true Comex and I'd hazard to say that no forgers have ever held one.
Therefor giving specific information as to what you have requested is dicey. REally Dicey!
Not insinuating that you in anyway are less than a true Rolex enthusiast, but once this info is out in the ether, you can't take it back.
IF and when you plan on buying a real one, it will NOT be an easy process. You will have to verify any given piece with one of the few true experts that exist that more than likely do not reside in your country.
As for giving out specific information on the run of the mill vintage, I personally have no issue with. But as far as these are concerned. Absolutely not!

One mans hefty is another mans bargain
I did see an awesome 1665 Comex at HQ Milton with papers not too long ago
it was north of $100K US and sold pretty quick. So that you could call a "hefty price" but presumably justified

UM, did you read the thread? It's a fake Comex. So no price at all justified.
