How to remove cyclops!

Hi,

Is there any way to either

1) remove the cyclops date magnifier on any given Rolex

or

2) order any given Rolex without it?

Love the watches, hate the cyclops. It ruins the look, plus it actually makes reading the date more difficult, as it creates a glare.

Buy one of these. Problem solved.

But honestly, you can either buy a replacement crystal and swap out or a watchmaker can remove. I would say that unless you Jocke or someone like him this is not a DIY job. And as far as I know Rolex will not do an order without one.

SDc or DSSD, or without dates include Subc no date and Exp1 and Daytona.

Several years ago I accidentally knocked the cyclops off my 16610... made my sub face look like the Sea Dweller... so I'm assuming there's a way.

Not that I would recommend trying this but I vaguely remember someone in the past on these forums saying they used a lighter to get it off. That if you hold a flame near the cyclops for 2-3 seconds the heat pops it off.

Plenty of threads on this with a quick forum search...
Acetone and a razor blade seems to be the preferred method of choice.

It can be done, check youtube. And if you mess it up, just go to plan B and get a new crystal installed. Having said that, I'm not sure if there is a no-cyclops crystal option for all thw watches that come cyclops-only.

Keep in mind your cyclops may have an anti reflective coating under it which will leave a "stain" on the crystal.

This. You can remove the cyclops, but if on a ceramic model, you will have the "shadow" of the AR coating behind.

Thanks for the responses.

IMHO, the cyclops detracts from an otherwise great watch.

It just annoys me that for someone spending >10k for a watch, I can't get
exactly what I want from the manufacturer.

Anyone from Rolex listening??

I didn't like the cyclops for a long time. I love it now, and miss it on my other watches. There are tons of watches out there without it, good luck.

No they aren't listening. You have plenty of options. Very good options. What do you want/need out of your watch?

That is correct, you can find samples all over the net.

If the cyclops really bothers you, makes you toss and turn in bed, loose appetite and couldn't even make your eyes straight like holding onto pee in a NY traffic jam, then....

Get it back to RSC and ask/beg/bribe for a replacement crystal sans cyclops

Didn't like it. 10 years ago. Then came the need for reading glasses. LOVE it now.

with a chisel or knife and a lighter you can take it off, you need to heat it and take it off, it's doable, for exact details search the web

X2 be careful

The older models can be done. I had an AD do that for me once. I had to agree to pay for a new crystal in the event there was damage. There wasn't.

This has SDc written all over it, only because of the AR coating left behind, otherwise I would see no harm in self removal.

Here is how it looks when I try that on one of my DateJust´s.

I start with my cyclop remover kit.

Pull it up in my full size Bergeon case holder.

And start thr work.

Damn, Rolex have quality glue so I have to warm it up a bit.

Now I hope it will come off.

Ouups, not so good.

What do you think, did I have to change crystal? Or can it
be polished?
