Cruise ship rip off on Rolex
Was at a carnival cruise and there was a " Rolex sale". Showed up and it was all used day just circa 1980-90s with replaced plastic to sapphire crystal two tone and asking $8000 after 40 % off if buy today. Feel sorry for someone who might buy it for $8000 think it 40% off. Watch is worth $2-3000 to me at best.

There's two words you don't see much together: Rolex and sale.

Sheep get slaughtered I suppose. Surprised the cruise ship let them do that. Then again, never been on one.

A store in a mall where I grew up in PA tries the same crap... Sells 20 year old watches "40% off retail" (todays prices mind you) All polished to Hell with non-Rolex parts... Just awful...

There was someone on here that bought two Rolex watches on a cruise ship and they both fogged up in the shower while still on board.

Have never been on a large cruise ship. The biggest ones I've been on carry a max of 700 pax. Only one ship held an auction and it was an art auction. I picked up a couple of Tarquay prints quite cheaply. On all the rest, I left my money at the casino tables. Sometimes it took a whole week to do that.

There will always be uninformed people out there. Remember it only takes one to buy it

Converting acrylic crystal to sapphire is a no no. Completely different mounting setup and watch will never be waterproof. What a bunch of scamsters.

They try to sell everything on cruise ships. Even coins. I got offered gold coins and silver coins on a Caribbean trip.

Thats how they make their money. The cruise itself is cheap but what u pay after that kills u, like alcohol for example. The last time i was on a cruise ship i saw 5 TT sub from the 80's for like 9k each. Im sure those were unwanted model that the watch company wanted to unload fast, so the ship marks them up high. Hoping fir a sucker who hit big at the casino. They even told me its tax free since were at international water. Lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Don't they serve a lot of alcohol on cruise ships?

I don't have this level of knowledge BUT have heard from two individuals that I regard as trustworthy that Rolex did, for a while, convert acrylic to sapphire crystals on some watches. The result was very, very unattractive and I was told they discontinued the practice.

Have been on around 25 cruises and never seen Second hand Rolexes for sale. Most cruise companies sell The likes of Tag, Tissot and Longines as they have dealership agreements (sometimes through someone like Colombian Emeralds) and seen Omega too.
Last year though I did see a Hublot dealership on the Oasis of the Seas which surprised me. To me one of the reasons why Rolex is such a great brand is because they are not for sale on cruise ships |

A little bit of a worry if a Cruise Ship is selling 'Diving Waches' . Do they think the ship may sink ??

I've been on about 10 cruises. Mostly Royal Caribbean and one Disney Cruise. The Disney Cruise didn't sell any watches of note. On the Oasis of the Seas, they used to have a jewellery store that sold jewellery and watches. That was the first time I was on the Oasis. When I went on the Oasis a year later, they had moved the necklaces, rings and bracelets across the Promenade and converted the previous space to one entirely dedicated to watches. Where they once had Tags and Breitlings and several lesser brands, they added Omega, Hublot and Zenith. The sales people were pretty nice and fairly knowledgeable. It was nice talking to them and they weren't too pushy. Their prices were in line with US MSRP with 15-20% discounts on Breitlings and Tags. Of course, other brands were available in port. Pretty much everything else. When speaking with the sales people on board, they told me that Rolex, as everyone knows, demand the sun, the stars and the moon of their dealers. The space dedicated to Rolex must be a standalone boutique with minimum square footage that is impractical on a Cruise Ship, even one as large as the Oasis.
The first sign that something isn't right is the fact that Rolexes or anything above a Swatch is being sold on a Carnival Ship. You're lucky to return to port upon the appointed time without a breakdown or a fire to delay you.
