Do I sense some falling out of love with the manufacture?

Maybe it is me, but I am seeing a lot of criticism towards the brand, some heavyweights selling all their pieces and moving on and some being downright nasty. What is going on? Is it just me? Is it the cold up north making people cranky?

PS, 26400 is my favorite piece and I don't care much whether it is popular or not

Not me - stil my favorite brand. Down to three and will add another when I am ready. No rush though as there wasn't anything at SIHH that appealed. A lot of the negative I have seen has been drive by posters more than anything else. And the heavyweights change pieces more often than I change socks so I am not sure I would read too much into that.

I don't hate nor dislike AP. I have a 15400 and enjoy wear it but I don't have the passion for AP like I have with PP, ALS, FPJ, and JLC. There isn't another reference that I am itching to get. At least none yet.

I also wonder besides the RO/ROO, what else does AP have that's so must have?

I know none of the usual suspects here (hardcore fans, myself included) have these feelings ... I just thought I got this vibe reading around. Like I said, maybe it is just me ... and it does not affect my love for the brand one bit. Just an observation, which may or may not be accurate.

I did not have any impression of what you mentioned. Maybe right after SIHH 2015 where some collectors are not in favor of all these bling-out APs but I don't think there is any concern of massive deflection from the brand.

Overall, I think the brand keeps a good check and balance between pricing, quality and exclusiveness. I plan to keep my existing 3 APs for the long term and may even add one or two more in time to come.

I still love AP. I did sell my 15300 to fund a 5711 However I will always have an AP in the stable.

You know what I am talking about right?

Unfortunately ... still waiting! But it shouldn't be long! Been without it for too long already! Here's an old shot .. what good is a thread without one?

I used to be heavily into Rolex.

After buying my first AP I can honestly say they are perfect wathes for me and I can't even bring myself to wear any of my Rolexes

I can't speak for others but truth is they really didn't offer anything worth mentioning at SIHH this which may have been a trigger for some that already have a collection to be upset.

The quality, options and finishing on AP as well as fantastic wrist presence make this my favourite brand.

Mine too! By a long shot!

... and I agree ... this SIHH kinda sucked.

And.....the dials on the chronos are so legible, there is nothing that compares from Rolex or Patek in the way of chronograph legibility.

Not a knock on those brands, just an observation from someone that uses chronos all the time.

Below is a pic of my favourite model, had to by two of them. Bracelet and strap

Here's my take for what's it's worth. I find rolex and Pateks that I want more of. I can think of 4-5 of each that I want ! I have an FC Diver and a 15400 and can't think of another AP I would want at the moment.... Not sure why... Maybe the brand is to dependent on the royal oak and I have enough ROs I suppose. That being said I certainly love the ones I have.

I understand what you mean, other sub forums seem to be getting more attention of late and the new 42mm ROOs haven't really captured the imagination here and not that many incomings. I've also noticed a lot of former big AP posters don't post on TRF much at all anymore like TSW.

I can think that maybe its because SIHH didn't overly impress like others have mentioned. I'm definitely not a fan of the bedazzled ROOs, I'd have to see the two-toned 15400SR before I'd cast final judgement, and although I like the new color of the diver, $19,000 is pretty steep. I know there were others, but nothing I could afford. So probably until they come out with 42mm Offshores with ceramic bezels, I'll probably stick with my old ROC.

I am far more pissed off with PP than AP. Still a big AP fan even though I have sold at least a dozen pieces in the last year.

Why are you mad at PP? I have a 5980/1A and can't bring myself to buy another piece. I have been finding more value in ALS and FPJ.

What needs a boost isn't the 42mms as there are a ton of options....its the 44 that is lacking in my opinion.

Rose Gold with white dial would be amazing
The anthracite dial still hasn't shown up a year after being announced
What about a 44mm safari, that would be wicked

I think it was just a disappointing SIHH lineup.

It's been a lot of PP v AP of late...

Just something to talk about really. Everyone knows they both make outstanding pieces at the top of their rosters!

I am new to the brand and very happy with my 15400, it does ding up more than I would like but overall happy with the watch and quality although it is by far my biggest piece (not usually from the big is better school). I like the history associated with Genta and the RO, to be honest and I can feel the daggers now the ROO does nothing for me, as I dont like big watches. To the talking point above, I do not see myself ever buying another AP, as the RO is the only model that interests me where there are many Rolex, AP, ALS I would want to own.

Not interested in starting an AP vs PP discussions, different brands are just that different brands. Happy to be an AP owner, but I don't see it as the best brand as many do (I see it as a avery nice high end holy trinity brand).

Their inability/unwillingness to provide me or my dealer with any useful information on the pieces I have been repeatedly promised. I would like to think I am a good customer, and I don't think this is the correct way to treat customers.

Lots of AP love to go around. Lots of us criticize Rolex models but we buy them anyways.

Do I sense some falling out of love with the manufacture?

Eventually... Very much thinking about trading my SS 15400 for the 26320 (RG chrono on bracelet) add strap separately.

I enjoy the roo line up, would rather have 42mm but lack of ceramic bezel I went to 44mm. I definitely agree I would love to see a 44mm in titanium non le or different options , but the lack off 42mm with ceramic have me looking at other options for another watch. I do think there's definitely a difference in incomings with the 42mm.

How beautiful is the movement with the clear case back for the RO?

I am debating the RO or the VC Overseas.

Thanks.

Same here. Still really like AP but more into Patek now. Only AP that I'm interested in now is the 15305. At least 3 or 4 Pateks that are on my list.

This is thought provoking ... And makes me wonder why the Millenary, Jules Audemars, etc. receive so little attention. Personally, if I were interested on those aesthetics, I think I would be looking elsewhere as well.
